Every year, The Avril Show hosts an impactful morning of fellowship at its Community Breakfast. I look forward to seeing family, friends, and familiar faces; this year was no different, as the event honored the work done at the Boyd Cancer Center, who have touched the lives of so many survivors. To my surprise, I was awarded the Empathy and Public Service Award, alongside my colleagues, U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres and Councilmember Kevin C. Riley, and I am so appreciative of the support. Lots of things happen in NY that we don’t agree on. Lots of things happen in the - even as recently as last night- that we may not see eye to eye on. But late night, in that hallowed chamber- the unity was clearly there- all because of our ! We stopped to recognize the hard fought game 1 victory led by - and the entire chamber was on one accord. I am deeply honored to be recognized as both the keynote speaker and an essential Community Partner at the Stand Up to Violence (SUV) 2026 Annual Stakeholders Appreciation Event last night.

One shot fired is one shot too many. I appreciate my good friend Pastor Jay Gooding for being the embodiment of community and for always responding to what the community needs.

Since 2014, SUV has been doing the hard, essential work of reducing gun violence in the Bronx, and being part of this mission is paramount. I thank Jacobi/NCB, my family, friends, and colleagues for their support and encouragement!
