to our last event of 2023!

We were grateful to host an incredible fireside chat and lunch and learn featuring New York Liberty 🏀CEO, Keia Clarke and M.M.LaFleur 👗CEO, Sarah LaFleur, moderated by our Program Director, Pam Kulnis.

The ladies shared their impressive career journeys and paths to leadership while offering inspiring stories of overcoming challenges and finding success. Plus, Webull provided gifts to all attendees to support them on their own journeys.

Leila first came to us in 2018, an experience that she remembers as the first time she felt listened to and understood the career advice she was being given.

Leila put that advice to use by securing a job in New York and then later when she moved to Georgia. But the birth of her baby daughter last year derailed things for Leila. As a single mom without much support, she knew she needed to make some significant changes.

In April, Leila moved back to New York. It hasn’t been an easy transition, but at each step of the way from finding housing to childcare to work, Leila has been determined to get the help she needs to secure the best future for her daughter:

“I knew I needed help. I immediately thought of Bottomless Closet, the place that helped me years ago when I was looking for a job. They gave me confidence and set me up for success.”

Leila’s determination paid off – today, she is working as a receptionist at a company where she has the potential to learn and grow.

Your year-end donation today will fund vital programs that will help more New York City women in need like Leila turn their lives around in 2024. Please make a gift at: https://bit.ly/giveBC23

Anaise turned to Bottomless Closet in 2020 after giving birth to her second child. With a Bachelor’s Degree and several years of experience working in social services, Anaise had always prided herself on being someone who was optimistic about the future. But at 34, in the middle of a pandemic, with a new baby, a 12-year-old son and no job, Anaise was struggling; she knew she needed help.

To further her career and secure a job to provide for her growing family, Anaise knew she needed to go back to school. But she lacked confidence. And at 34, she felt it was too late.

“Coming to Bottomless Closet and taking part in the workshops, I started seeing all these other women who were examples to me. They showed me it’s not too late – it’s not too late to find a job, go back to school, even write a book. They inspired me!”

For two years, Anaise attended Bottomless Closet workshops, where she learned vital financial and professional development skills. Her confidence grew. By the time she graduated from our Financial Management and Professional Development programs, she’d set her sights on an even bigger goal – a Master’s Degree at Fordham University!

“The application process was daunting. I could never have done it without the support of Bottomless Closet.”

Not only did Anaise secure a place at Fordham, but she also secured two scholarships!

Anaise is just one of thousands of inspiring New York City women who we’ve supported this year. Your year-end donation will fund programs to help more women in need like Anaise embark on a new future. Please give at: https://ow.ly/Fjfl50QhE4z

Welcome, Inez Johnson, to the Bottomless Closet Board of Directors!

With over two decades of experience in marketing and strategy, including leadership positions at Procter & Gamble, L'Oreal USA and her current position at Accenture, Inez has always been passionate about inclusion and diversity. Through direct mentoring and advocacy, Inez has been committed to supporting women, people of color and other minorities to work towards their career goals. She is excited to take on this new role and expand her reach in this area.

In addition to her MBA from Simon Business School and a BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech, Inez holds a certification in Non-Profit Board Governance and joining the Bottomless Closet Board of Directors is a natural next step for her.

Like our other dedicated Board Members, our mission at Bottomless Closet resonates strongly with Inez. She looks forward to impacting the lives of women in need here in New York City as they strive to enter the workforce and succeed.

The number of women in need who are seeking out Bottomless Closet’s interview and job readiness programs continues to rise, and demand for our services is up 80% on last year. We are incredibly grateful to have Inez as part of the Bottomless Closet family during this time when so many women and families need our help.

During the pandemic, Rafaelina accessed Bottomless Closet services from home, including working remotely with Arlene, her Career Coach, who helped her update her resume. Then, when Rafaelina came for a Pre-Interview appointment at our 34th Street location earlier this year, she was thrilled to get to work with Arlene again – this time in person.

In September, Rafaelina’s hard work paid off, and she secured her new job as a Program Assistant at a nonprofit. Once again, Arlene was there to offer mentorship and support.

“It’s been exciting to see Rafaelina throughout her job search journey: first working together virtually on her resume, next during her in-person appointment where we selected some great outfits and did some interview practice and finally today, after she has gotten her job! Volunteering is such a fulfilling experience - I know Rafaelina is going to be successful in her non-profit career.” - Arlene, Bottomless Closet Volunteer

Your year-end donation this holiday season will fund vital programs at Bottomless Closet to help more women like Rafaelina throughout her job search journey.

BREAKING NEWS! 📰 💝

Bottomless Closet is thrilled to have been chosen as an inaugural grantee of the Amplify Her Foundation!

Amplify Her® Foundation’s mission is to support women and girls from underserved communities to become transformative changemakers. Earlier this week, they announced their plans to grant a combined total of $1 million to New York City nonprofits working to advance the leadership of women and girls across the boroughs.

The announcement comes less than two months after Amplify Her's release of “If She Can Make it Here,” their comprehensive research report on women’s and girls’ leadership in New York City, which guided the Foundation’s grantmaking strategy by identifying the most significant barriers women face and interventions that support them in overcoming those obstacles.

We are so grateful to have received this gift to help even more women in NYC get on the path to self-sufficiency.

This , we have already raised $7,606! If you have already donated, thank you so much for your commitment to disadvantaged New York City women.

We are only $2,394 away from our goal to raise $10,000, so if you haven’t already donated, please give what you can before midnight. Every dollar we raise today will be matched by U.S. Bank up to $5,000 and will support women in need like Kyshia.

Kyshia first came to Bottomless Closet as a lost 19-year-old with no High School Diploma, no friends, resources or support system. Over the last ten years, thanks to her resilience and our support, Kyshia has overcome many challenges, including homelessness and an abusive relationship, to be where she is now: a graduate of New York City College of Technology about to embark on an internship in International Business and mom to two young sons.

Kyshia’s determination and tenacity are something we see every day at Bottomless Closet. Our clients' drive and focus in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles is humbling and inspiring – but they need our help and support to reach their goals.

We are so close to our goal and need your help to get there! Give now, and U.S. Bank will match your contribution, so your gift will support twice as many needy women like Kyshia!

Today is – a global day to give back to those in need.

This year, we’ve seen an 80% increase in New York City women in need seeking our services as they reach out for help getting back to work.

Since we moved to our new location last June, we’ve empowered almost 2,000 women to envision a new future for themselves. Letesha is one of these women who, after working with her Bottomless Closet Career Coach, secured not one but two jobs!

This , your gift will be matched by U.S. Bank to fund all of these vital services so you can help twice as many women like Letesha get back to work.

You will get a lot of asks today, and there are so many worthy causes in our world, especially now. By choosing to make a gift to Bottomless Closet, you could provide one of the following services to a woman in need:

• $25 stock the boutique with difficult-to-source items so clients of all shapes & sizes can feel good!
• $50 help a client hone her digital literacy skills in our new Computer Lab.
• $100 secure one client's place on an Upskill at Home workshop.
• $250 gives one woman the tools to ace the interview and land the job like Letesha did!
• $500 support the development of new Career Coach onboarding and training.
• $1,000 empower ten women to experience 1:1 Career Coaching.

If you’ve already given a year-end gift, please know how grateful we are for your support. If you have not already done so, please consider making a gift at: https://bit.ly/ClosetGT23 or at link in bio.

Katherine first came to Bottomless Closet in 2006. She needed a job to become financially independent and escape her marriage. With our support, Katherine found a job and the confidence to restart her educational journey.

“At my lowest times, I came away full of hope and encouragement. All my milestones are because of Bottomless Closet. Everything I’ve achieved – my High School Diploma, my Bachelors, my Master’s – all thanks to Bottomless Closet.”

But in February, after seven years in her job as a Case Worker, at 61, Katherine was mugged on the subway on the way to visit one of her clients just after her mother died. This left Katherine traumatized and too afraid to ride the subway, which meant she was unable to work. Alone and isolated at home, her only lifeline was attending our workshops over Zoom. She felt herself grow stronger over time as she connected with her Bottomless Closet “sisterhood.”

By April, Katherine had enough confidence to attend our Career Fair, where she landed her “dream job,” an office-based role working with individuals over 55 seeking to return to work.

“If I could have designed the perfect job for me, this would be it,” Katherine says. “I’m working with people I care about. I understand their struggles, and I get to share with them what I’ve learned.”

Your gift will help another woman like Katherine get back on her feet this holiday season. Please consider donating at: https://bit.ly/giveBC23 or at link in bio.
