“Shar[ing] and honor[ing] the diversity, resources, and community spirit” of residents is all part of our Norwalk site’s plan to promote safety and strengthen community-police relations through the OJP Bureau of Justice Assistance Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation program.

Partnering with the Norwalk, CT Police Department and the The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, the BCJI site used grant funding to sponsor a free South Norwalk Celebrating Diversity event. “We’re bringing people together from the area that we’re looking to build,” says Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling.

Congratulations to BCJI Corning’s Restore Program! Corning City Council recently voted to continue funding the juvenile diversion program through a US Department of Education grant received by the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians.

The Restore program was created during the Corning grant’s “implementation” phase as an alternative to the traditional justice procedure, diverting youth before adjudication using a mentoring model. The grant funds allow for the continuation of the program through June 2018. Kudos to the Corning site for leveraging funding to create cross-disciplinary, lasting solutions.

"Reducing Violent Crime in American Cities: An Opportunity to Lead" provides over 25 policy recommendations for the new administration and Congress.
