Kathy Hochul wants you to believe her $36 billion lawsuit against Kalshi is about protecting New Yorkers. I smell rotten eggs.

New York’s casino industry pays a 51% tax on gaming revenue, the highest in the nation. Kalshi pays nothing. That makes it a direct threat to the casino industry’s monopoly.

And that industry has bankrolled Hochul for years:

- Hard Rock & execs, $100,000+.
- The Seminole Tribe (Hard Rock’s owner), $120,000+.
- Owners of Metropolitan Park, $136,700 to Hochul and $235,000 more to the state party.
- Las Vegas Sands & lobbyists, tens of thousands.
- Genting/Resorts World, $50,000+.
- Tioga Downs’ Jeff Gural, $47,500.

That’s half a million-plus in casino cash, from the exact competitors Kalshi threatens.

Let me be clear, New York should collect its tax, then let the free market compete.

Kalshi reportedly offered a deal like North Carolina’s, 6% on trades, real revenue for the state.

Hochul rejected it and went nuclear instead. And if this is really about the law, why isn’t she suing Polymarket or Robinhood too?

A governor who takes casino money for years, then sues the one company undercutting her donors’ monopoly, and then turns down a revenue deal to do it: that’s not law enforcement.

That smells like pay-to-play, plain and simple.

As Comptroller, I’ll audit the gaming revenue, expose the conflicts, and make sure no donor gets a monopoly New Yorkers didn’t vote for.
