Dont be that guy. Turn around don’t drown. If you aren’t sure whether its too deep, it is. If a road is flooded, You never know if the road is still structurally sound, and you don’t have to be the one to find out it isn’t. Aside from the whole “you might die” thing… if you survive, flooded vehicles can get expensive to repair or replace.

And for the love of everything… if we have to barricade roads, it means you too. Don’t move it or drive around. If we have to rescue you we will absolutely be telling you how stupid that was.

The burn ban has not been extended. We urge residents to burn smart. Ensure you have access to water or equipment for control. We recommend not burning on any day with humidity forecast below 30% or winds including gusts forecast above 15 mph. all fires should be attended until they are cold to the touch. As a reminder, only clean brush, leaves, and yard waste that originates on the same property as it is burned on may be burned. Burning of construction debris, household waste, tires, hazardous materials, or anything besides brush, may result in referral to the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality for prosecution.

BURN BAN REMAINS EFFECTIVE

As we roll into the weekend, yes we remain under a burn ban. The decision to extend or terminate the ban will be at the discretion of the County Commissioners on Monday. Drought conditions remain largely unchanged. Mesonet reports a sharp gradient in rainfall totals, with areas of the county varying from less than 1 inch to near 3 inches of rain.

As we move into next week, warm and dry is forecast to return.

Numbers have changed a little bit. The term “dry slot” is being thrown around a lot in discussion. We may still see some great rainfall, and we may also see very little meaningful rainfall.

Bottom line is this:

1. It has not rained meaningfully in nearly two months. If we do get heavy rain, very dry ground may not absorb it well, and flooding threats will be higher than normal. Do not drive through flooded roads.

2. We might not get enough rain to meaningfully impact the drought. Even if it rains some, it will not be enough to just end the fire threats. A burn ban remains in effect until lifted by the commissioners.

3. A severe threat exists the next 2 days. Please be weather aware.

This weather has us switching PSA slogans faster than Cracker Barrel’s 180 on Uncle Hershel, and our socials guy is ready for a break. After 51 consecutive days seeing less than .1 inches of rain, it is ALL coming at once! This will whip us from fire risk to flood risk this week… so… turn around don’t drown, remember the Alamo… I mean burn ban, remember there is still a burn ban. Even if the pile floats, still cannot burn it until the ban is lifted… and, like, don’t smoke in bed or something…
