Tonight was a powerful reminder of what community, mentorship, and perseverance look like in action.

BBABN would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who came out to celebrate our graduates and support the next chapter of their journey. Your presence, encouragement, and love meant more than words can express.

To our graduates: we are proud of your growth, resilience, and commitment to building a better future for yourselves and your communities. This achievement is only the beginning.

Special thanks to our families, supporters, mentors, community partners, and friends who continue to believe in the mission of Brothers Building A Better Nation. Together, we are creating pathways, restoring hope, and building legacy.

Brotherhood. Scholarship. Legacy.

This moment is bigger than graduation. Standing alongside brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. represents the power of Black and Brown unity, cultural pride, leadership, and collective advancement.

Founded in 1906 at Cornell University, Alpha Phi Alpha became the first intercollegiate Black Greek-letter fraternity in history. Built during an era of racial exclusion in higher education, the fraternity created a pathway for Black men to lead through scholarship, advocacy, and service. Alpha men helped shape the Civil Rights Movement, with members including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Thurgood Marshall, and W.E.B. Du Bois.

Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. — La Unidad Latina — was founded in 1982, also at Cornell University, to empower Latino students through academic excellence, cultural consciousness, and community leadership. The organization became the first Latino-based fraternity incorporated in New York State and continues building leaders nationwide.

Together, these organizations symbolize the symbiotic brotherhood that BBABN believes in:
different histories, shared purpose.

When Black and Brown communities unite through education, service, healing, and advocacy, we create stronger futures for the next generation. This partnership is not performative — it is legacy work.

This photo reflects resilience, achievement, and the continued commitment to uplifting our communities together.

Brothers Building A Better Nation is proud to announce the donation of 6 Apple computers that will directly support digital access, workforce readiness, education, and community empowerment efforts within the neighborhoods we serve.

Technology access is no longer optional — it is essential. These devices will help individuals and families gain access to:
• Online learning opportunities

• Telehealth and behavioral health services
• Digital literacy training
• Community programming and youth engagement

We believe closing the digital divide is part of building stronger communities. Every computer donated represents opportunity, connection, and progress.

A sincere thank you to everyone who continues investing in our mission to create sustainable change through education, mentorship, behavioral health advocacy, and community development.

Today, on Mother’s Day, we honor the mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, and women whose love, strength, and guidance help shape our homes, our communities, and our future.

At Brothers Building A Better Nation, we see every day how care, consistency, and compassion can create healing, belonging, and opportunity for young people and families across Newark and Essex County.

To every mother and caregiver who shows up with courage, wisdom, and unwavering support: thank you. Your leadership leaves a lasting legacy.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate you and the powerful role you play in building stronger families and healthier communities.

Happy Mother’s Day from BBABN.

What is one lesson from a mother or caregiver that has stayed with you?

Tonight, Brothers Building a Better Nation was honored to attend the Partners for Health Foundation Spring Gathering alongside leaders and organizations from across Essex County working to strengthen our communities.

Thank you to Pam Scott and the entire Partners for Health Foundation team for hosting a gathering that reflected their commitment to health equity, collaboration, and community partnership.

What stood out tonight was the power of connection.

Organizations from different backgrounds and sectors came together not only to discuss the future of our communities, but to celebrate what is possible when people work together with shared purpose.

At Brothers Building a Better Nation, the work we do is driven by the spirit of brotherhood — the belief that real progress happens through relationships, trust, unity, and collective responsibility.

That spirit was deeply present throughout the evening.

Through every conversation and every new connection, tonight served as a reminder that lasting impact is built when organizations come together in service of something greater than themselves.

We are grateful to Partners for Health Foundation for welcoming us into this space and proud to stand beside so many organizations committed to creating healthier, stronger, and more connected communities.

This is what strength in unity looks like.

We’re grateful to be in the room where growth, leadership, and impact come together.

Today, Brothers Building a Better Nation had the opportunity to participate in a powerful workshop on Adaptive Leadership hosted by The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey. Spaces like this challenge us to think deeper, lead smarter, and serve our communities more effectively.

As an organization committed to uplifting young men and strengthening our communities, we recognize that leadership is not static—it requires adaptability, courage, and continuous learning. This experience reinforces our commitment to building solutions that meet real needs in real time.

We appreciate the Foundation’s investment in organizations like ours and their dedication to advancing health, equity, and community well-being.

We’re leaving energized, equipped, and even more committed to the work ahead.

Guess what? We have a new licensed therapist on our team...

We are proud to share that our Founder and Executive Director, Quadeer Porter, MHA, LSW, has passed the ASWB Masters Exam and, as of April 7, 2026, is officially a Licensed Social Worker in the state of New Jersey!

This is not just about a credential. It is about what becomes possible when lived experience, discipline, and purpose meet.

At a time when men of color remain deeply underrepresented across the mental health workforce, this moment carries real weight. Federal labor data show that men make up just 27.4% of mental health counselors, while 22.0% of that workforce is Black or African American. The exact share who are Black men is not consistently reported across licensed mental health professions, but it is clearly small.

Representation like this matters because our communities deserve care that is clinically grounded, culturally responsive, and trusted.

For BBABN, this feels like a turning point. Quadeer has led this work through challenge, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to Newark. Now he steps into this next chapter with even greater capacity to support our therapeutic team and help build the kind of healing infrastructure our people deserve.

In Quadeer’s words:

“I would like to thank everyone on my team, my family, my friends, and the community I serve for inspiring me to complete this milestone. As happy as I am, I know this is not where the story ends. BBABN has been through so much these last few years. We needed this win, and I am glad that I will finally be able to support our therapeutic team.”

This is what it looks like when the work keeps moving.
This is what it looks like when the movement keeps moving.
This is what it looks like when a win for one becomes hope for many.
Please join us in celebrating this important moment!

Brothers Building A Better Nation was proud to participate in the North Ward Brick City Clean Up Day in Newark, NJ, working alongside dedicated community partners committed to building a cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant city.

We want to give a special thank you to Cerenthia McElroy of Newark’s People Assembly for her leadership, her commitment to the community, and for inviting us to be part of this impactful initiative. Your work continues to strengthen Newark neighborhoods and bring people together in meaningful ways.

During the clean up, our team helped beautify Branch Brook Park, one of Newark’s most historic and valued public spaces. A fun and educational highlight was learning about Newark’s connection to the Tiffany Factory. Newark played a role in the legacy of Louis Comfort Tiffany, the artist known for Tiffany glass. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Tiffany Studios operated manufacturing facilities in Newark, where skilled artisans created decorative glass and metalwork that are still recognized today as important contributions to American art and design.

Experiences like this remind us that community engagement, civic pride, and local history all go hand in hand as we continue building a better Newark.

Today feels personal.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Sharon Salvador, our incredible Deputy Director at Brothers Building A Better Nation, on successfully defending her doctoral thesis and earning her Doctor of Business Administration (DBA).

This achievement is remarkable on its own, but when you understand who Sharon is, it carries even more weight.

With over 25 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, community engagement, and strategic development, Sharon has helped secure more than $35 million in funding for organizations like Newark Arts, Bessie Green Community, Inc., and New Community Corp. Her expertise in fundraising, strategic planning, and operations has strengthened institutions and expanded opportunities for communities that are too often overlooked.

But what stands out most to me is not just her résumé. It is who she is as a person.

Sharon has been the living embodiment of love, care, and commitment that this organization needed. Her presence has brought a level of focus, discipline, and compassion that has shaped not only our work, but me personally as a leader. I can say without hesitation that I am a better Executive Director because of her.

A proud Dominican-American woman raised in Newark and a first-generation college graduate, Sharon’s journey reflects resilience, purpose, and faith. From earning her degree in Economics at Rutgers, to her MBA in Global Management, and now completing her DBA with a concentration in Business Intelligence, she continues to lead with both intellect and heart.

Sharon, I pray that you continue to experience success and reach new heights. I want you to know that the spirit of the brotherhood has grown stronger because of your presence. Your impact is lasting, and your leadership is deeply felt.

Congratulations, Dr. Salvador. This is well earned.

“Strong communities are built when men choose purpose over comfort and connection over isolation.”

On Tuesday, March 24th in New Jersey, we hosted our first Brothers Building a Better Nation Mix & Mingle, and the impact was immediate.

The room was filled with meaningful conversation, genuine laughter, and a shared commitment to building something bigger than ourselves. Moments like these remind us that brotherhood is not just a concept. It is something we actively create through presence, dialogue, and accountability.

A sincere thank you to David Moore and Kevin O’Connor for joining us and contributing to such a powerful exchange. Your insight and energy helped shape a vision that continues to move us forward.

We also want to give a special shout out to Ian Alcantara-Contreras of GNEC for helping us secure the space and making this gathering possible.

This is how movements begin. Not with noise, but with intentional connection and aligned purpose.

If you believe in building stronger men and stronger communities, stay connected. This is only the beginning.
