It is with heavy hearts that we, the Weequahic Park Association, announce the passing of our fearless and esteemed Co-Founder, Mr. Wilbur J. McNeil, on August 9, 2026.

We do not yet have details of his celebration of life, but we will share it on social media and our website as soon as they are available.

Become a Water Explorer as you journey through five interactive Discovery Stops:

🌼 Plant Detectives – Learn the difference between native and invasive species and discover how pollinators help keep our ecosystem healthy.

💧 Water Scientists – Test the lake’s water and become a community scientist for the day.

🗺️ Follow the Water – Explore how stormwater travels through our neighborhoods, into Weequahic Lake, and beyond.

🌧️ Rain Garden Builders – Visit our new rain garden, learn how it helps reduce flooding, and build your own mini rain garden model.

💭 Imagine the Future – Share your vision for a healthier Weequahic Lake and help shape the future of our park.

🎒 Pick up your Water Explorer Passport, collect stamps at each Discovery Stop, and earn a special prize when you complete the journey!

This Earth Day, we got our hands in the soil.

On Sunday, April 19th, the Weequahic Park Association partnered with students from the Albert Dorman Honors College at NJIT to plant wildflowers throughout Weequahic Park. This initiative aimed to restore beauty, support pollinators, and reclaim space for our community.

The event was not just about planting flowers; it was about investing in our community, which is often overlooked and overburdened. This is what environmental justice looks like: people coming together, getting their hands in the soil, and committing to the health of our land and our future.

We are grateful to the students who participated, learned, and worked alongside us to honor the land and our future.
