New Jersey Working Families Party

New Jersey Working Families Party We're an independent progressive political organization taking back the Garden State for the 99%. Earned Sick Time: Family should come first.

Since our founding in 2008 we've been a leader in the fight for a more just New Jersey:

A Wage You Can Live On: Everyone who works should be able to provide for a family. That’s why the WFP led the successful fight for a $15 minimum wage in New Jersey. Thanks to years of organizing, nearly one million New Jerseyans are now on the path to $15. But we live in one of the few developed countries that

doesn’t let working people to take sick time to care for themselves or a family member. We led a groundbreaking campaign to pass earned sick time laws in 13 NJ municipalities, creating momentum for a statewide law that now covers nearly 1.2 million working people. Tax Fairness: Our state budget should work for the many, not the few. That’s why we spearheaded the coalition which won a millionaires tax in 2020 and successfully fought to bring greater accountability and transparency to the state's corporate subsidy laws. Stronger Voting Rights: Our government shouldn’t set up roadblocks to participating in our democracy. That’s why we played a key role in the passage of automatic voter registration in New Jersey, removing barriers to voting for hundreds of thousands of people. An Accountable Government: Our elected leaders must be accountable to the people. We fought to shine a light on Chris Christie’s corrupt rule, forcing the resignation of top lieutenants like former Port Authority Chairman David Sampson and cleaning up the culture of corruption at the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. The New Jersey WFP brings together labor, community organizations, social movements, and ordinary people that share a commitment to economic, social, and racial justice. Instacart, count your days.

Earlier today, Governor Mikie Sherrill signed the Fair Price Protection Act (A4523) into law at an event in Newark, banning retailers from using personal data to charge customers different prices for the same basic necessities.

Driven by AI-powered algorithms and expansive tracking of private data, surveillance pricing has become increasingly common, allowing corporations to charge more to customers with fewer options, and without shoppers knowing they're being singled out.

The law also places a one-year moratorium on new electronic shelf labels.

We threw a Juneteenth FIFA Watch Party with Chigozie Onyema at The Atelier!

Thank you to everyone who showed up and partied with us as we celebrated the rich, diverse culture and community of Newark. On a holiday that signifies black freedom, watching the Haiti vs Brazil match felt symbolic and significant.

This World Cup belongs to the people. It belongs to US.
