HBF Newark What is so special about Harlem Book Fair? The Harlem Book Fair is the premiere Africa American literary event in the United States.

For the last twelve years, the Harlem Book Fair has been in Harlem, New York and other venues (Freeport and Hempstead, LI; Hartford, CT; Buffalo, NY; San Diego, CA among other) with over 30,000 attendees annually. It is the only African America book festival that is televised national by C-SPAN’s Book TV. The Mission of the Harlem Book Fair/Newark our mission is to create a premiere literary event

, bringing together the history and culture of Newark through books and literature. Through series of events surrounding the HBF Newark, we seek to broaden literacy, literature and art awareness to encourage and promote initiatives and collaborations that celebrates Newark’s culturally diverse community. The HBF will be the first HBF to be hosted by an academic institution, Rutgers University Newark Campus. HBF will be a free, public fair celebrating the history, culture, and intellectual life of Newark through books, literature and written words. HBF will feature author book reading and workshops, panel discussion, publisher, exhibitors, themed stages and event showing case the culture and community of Newark. HBF Newark is enthusiastic about our partnership with Rutgers Newark, the State University of New Jersey, and Leadership Newark, and innovative management development organization, and planned of Metropolitan New Jersey, a leading provider of reproductive services. HBF Newark envisions collaboration with New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC); Newark Museum; Newark Public Library; Aljira, the center for contemporary art; among other for this highly anticipated event. Our Partner Venues Rutgers University Newark Campus, our central venue, is a 37 acre campus in the center of downtown Newark. The campus is the most diverse in the nation. A ranking it has held for 14 years. It is also a model of how a major research university can engage with an urban community and use it diversity to advance teaching, research and service.
