1 in 4 kids have a vision problem serious enough to affect learning, and studies show school screenings only catch about 25% of them. Most issues go undetected and can significantly impact a child's experience at school.

Left uncorrected, these issues show up in four ways:

👓 Academic: trouble reading and falling behind
👓 Physical: headaches and eyestrain
👓 Motor/Developmental: coordination and balance
👓 Emotional/Social: frustration and isolation

Before assuming it's a behavior problem, rule out a vision problem, as they look a lot alike.

Take action today and book an eye exam. One quick appointment now can prevent issues this coming school year.

Thanks to the unwavering support of advocates, community partners, and elected leaders, Wynona's House funding has officially been restored in New Jersey's FY2027 State Budget.

For more than 25 years, this investment has sustained Essex County's only fully co-located Child Advocacy Center and legislatively mandated Multidisciplinary Team, bringing law enforcement, prosecutors, medical and mental health professionals, and child advocates together under one roof for coordinated, compassionate, trauma-informed care.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Governor Mikie Sherrill, Senate Majority Leader M. Teresa Ruiz, Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor Marin , Assemblywoman Shanique Speight and many others for standing with us and making this possible.

To everyone who contacted elected officials, shared our message, and stood beside us: thank you. This victory belongs to our entire community, and most importantly, to the children whose voices deserve to be heard and protected.

Every child deserves to arrive home safely. Even on a mild day, the temperature inside a parked car can reach 105°F in less than an hour. Children's bodies heat up 3–5 times faster than adults, making every minute critical.

A simple habit can save a child's life. Place your phone, purse, briefcase, or another essential item in the back seat so you always check before locking your vehicle.

STOP. LOOK. LOCK.

Did you spot a concerning pattern of behavior? Did your child come home acting differently? Is your gut sending you signals? Parents and caregivers are often the first line of protection for kids.

Here's what to do:

✅ Talk to your child in a calm, open, non-leading way. Let them know they won't be in trouble for telling the truth.

✅ Document what you've observed, including dates, behaviors, and anything your child has said.

✅ Make a report. In NJ, call 1-877-NJ-ABUSE. You don't need proof. You don't need certainty. You just need reasonable cause for concern.

Not all grooming behaviors look alarming at first.

The behaviors listed below may seem harmless or even thoughtful.

⚠️ Giving a child frequent special gifts or privileges
⚠️ Using sexual language or telling inappropriate jokes around kids
⚠️ Getting unusually close to a child's family to gain access
⚠️ Seeking time alone with a child, away from other adults
⚠️ Providing a child with alcohol or drugs

None of these behaviors automatically means abuse is happening. But together, or as a pattern, they are a signal to pay closer attention and ask questions. Trust your instincts. If you're concerned about a child's safety, report your concerns.

If something feels off, don't ignore it.
Make the call to report child abuse.

In New Jersey, call 1-877-NJ-ABUSE (1-877-652-2873)
If a child is in immediate danger, call 911
