🚓🔥 Torch Runner of the Year – 2026 🔥🚓
The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Delaware is proud to celebrate Lt. Angie Dolan as the Winnie Spence Law Enforcement Torch Runner of the Year for 2026! 🏅

📸 Photo 1: Lt. Dolan’s very first time presenting medals to athletes at the Special Olympics Delaware Summer Games in 2005.

📸 Photo 2: A recent Awards Ceremony moment—sharing a smile and allowing an athlete to wear Lt. Dolan’s hat.

These two moments, captured years apart, tell the story of a career—and a heart—dedicated to service, inclusion, and the Law Enforcement Torch Run. From that first unforgettable medal presentation to continuing to uplift and celebrate athletes today, Lt. Dolan has embodied the spirit of the Flame of Hope every step of the way. 🔥

As we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Delaware, we’re throwing it back to a powerful moment from the 1990 Special Olympics Delaware Summer Games.

📸 This photo captures Delaware State Police Officer Greg Nolt, the 1990 Torch Runner of the Year, proudly bringing the Flame of Hope into the Opening Ceremony alongside Athlete of the Year Carol Bak.

What makes this moment even more special — Carol Bak is still an active athlete today, representing over 50 years of participation with Special Olympics Delaware and standing as one of our longest‑serving athletes.

🔥 Throwback Thursday | 40 Years of the Torch Run 🔥
As we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Delaware, we’re throwing it back to one of the earliest and most meaningful moments in Torch Run history.

📸 This photo comes from an old newspaper clipping showing Retired Delaware State Police Captain John Miller — one of the founders of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Delaware — bringing the Flame of Hope into the Opening Ceremony of the 1988 Special Olympics Delaware Summer Games at Delaware State College.

That same year, John Miller was honored as the 1988 Torch Runner of the Year, recognizing his leadership, dedication, and commitment to building what has become a 40‑year partnership between law enforcement and Special Olympics Delaware athletes.

Moments like this laid the foundation for everything the Torch Run represents today — tradition, inclusion, and unwavering support for our athletes 💙🔥

🔥 Throwback Thursday | 40 Years of the Torch Run 🔥
As we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Delaware, we’re throwing it all the way back to the very first Torch Run in 1987.

📸 This incredible photo was taken at the Georgetown Circle and features Special Olympics Delaware athletes from the Howard T. Ennis School, proudly standing alongside a vintage Delaware State Police cruiser complete with an old‑style beacon light.

This moment captures the earliest days of a movement rooted in community, partnership, and belief in our athletes. What started with moments like this has grown into 40 years of law enforcement officers carrying the Flame of Hope and standing beside athletes across Delaware.

From then to now, the heart of the Torch Run remains the same 💙🔥
