AFSC Immigrant Rights Program Promoting the rights and freedoms of immigrants in the US through advocacy and legal representation.

The Immigrant Rights Program in Newark, NJ works to ensure that ALL immigrants to the US are treated with respect and are able to exercise their human rights and fundamental freedoms. We work to address the vast need among immigrants for access to legal counsel and fair and non-discriminatory treatment by government agencies. We promote a fair and humane immigration policy because we believe that

the basis of U.S. immigration policy should be the protection of human rights of all people. Humane immigration policy must include a fair path for undocumented workers to gain permanent residence status. It also must be coupled with economic and trade policies that permit working people to earn a living wage in their home countries, foster an authentic commitment to demilitarization, and lead to the peaceful resolution of internal and international conflicts. We also seek to shape public opinion towards immigrants through building understanding of global migration and the causes behind it. AFSC works towards these goals through education, advocacy, and organizing, as well as legal representation. The organizing and advocacy project strives to promote immigrant voices and experiences so that those voices have a positive influence in governmental policies and how they are carried out. The legal services project provides representation for individuals facing deportation, for people in detention, for survivors of domestic violence and other crimes, and for unaccompanied minors, and assists in family reunification through naturalization and other immigration applications. AFSC is a Quaker organization devoted to service, development, and peace programs throughout the world. Our work is based on the belief in the worth of every person, and faith in the power of love to overcome violence and injustice.

All roads have led to this. This moment is the result of years of ongoing struggle. Entire generations have grown up in uncertainty, with families living under the constant fear of separation. Now, that struggle has brought TPS families to the Supreme Court. For many, this is a turning point that could determine whether more than 1.3 million families stay together or are torn apart. Decades of contributions and lives built in this country are on the line. This is a life-defining moment for hundreds of thousands of families. With anxiety, but without fear, the TPS community stands resilient, united, and determined.

Todos los caminos nos han llevado a este momento. Este momento es el resultado de años de lucha constante. Generaciones enteras han crecido en incertidumbre, con familias viviendo bajo el miedo constante de la separación. Hoy, esa lucha ha llevado a las familias con TPS hasta la Corte Suprema. Para muchos, este es un punto decisivo que determinará si más de 1.3 millones de familias permanecen juntas o son separadas. Décadas de contribuciones y vidas construidas en este país están en juego. Update on Cristofer: At 6:00 AM this morning, ICE began moving Cristofer from Strafford County Jail in New Hampshire to Louisiana (a deportation flight hub for ICE). FLOOD the lines of our senators, Andy Kim and Cory Booker, demanding they call for his immediate return and release today.

Join us for a youth-led community gathering uplifting immigrant voices and calling for dignity, safety, and justice for our immigrant community. This march centers young people organizing in solidarity with immigrant communities and standing against harmful detention and enforcement practices carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Everyone is welcome to attend.

AFSC NJ will be launching an emergency cash assistance fund to support families affected by detention and deportation - in addition to rapid responses who are observing ICE's actions.

Two ICE jails in NJ is already two too many—we can't let there be a third. Call and email Dalfen Industrial to stop the expansion of ICE jails in New Jersey. Dalfen Industrial is the private company that owns the Roxbury warehouse that ICE toured in January.
