African American members of the legislature in the state of New Jersey, like their counterparts in other states and in the congress of the unites States, recognize the fact that not all Americans are fully engaged in the working of, or the benefits of American democracy. These disparities are found in the political, economic and educational landscape of this country and are felt most negatively by
African Americans, other minority groups, as well as those in underserved communities. African American legislators of the state of new jersey have established a legislative Black Caucus which in turn created the New Jersey Legislative Black Caucus Foundation, Inc., intended to bring to light the disparities described above. The underlying purpose of all such Black Caucus Foundations is to develop an awareness and leadership among target communities, inform policy that will assist the target communities and educate the general population about the need to remove disparities between the targeted communities and overall population in terms of participation in American democracy and access to the promise of American democratic principles.
