Bringing resources and food to our community 🍎

UCC was proud to support Essex County’s Family Resource Day: Backpacks & Big Dreams event this week with Essex County Executive . It was an amazing day dedicated to connecting local families with essential resources.

Our team was on-site providing attendees with valuable information about UCC’s comprehensive wraparound services. A special thanks to our Youth Education and Employment Services staff for sharing vital information about our workforce development programs and our Food Assistance Department for coordinating a free grocery distribution for the community. Together, we are building a stronger, more supported neighborhoods!

UCC brought youth and seniors in our community together recently for a fun day at our Youth, Family, and Senior Services Department! Students from Uncommon Newark - North Star Academy worked side-by-side with our amazing seniors to build hydroponic gardening systems together.

Hands-on activities like this do so much more than just teach a new skill; they keep our youth mentored and inspired while ensuring our seniors remain active, deeply connected, and engaged in their community. Seeing two generations share laughs, swap stories, and collaborate on sustainable gardening was an absolute joy.

UCC thanks The Home Depot for making this day possible! Not only did they generously contribute the hydroponic systems, but they also sent their fantastic team out to help instruct both our youth and seniors in putting them together. We are grateful for your hands-on support and dedication to our community!

RECAP: Serving With Purpose - How UCC is Addressing Housing Insecurity

Don't miss out on the latest episode of Serving With Purpose. It provided an insightful and timely conversation between UCC Executive Director Craig Mainor and Latonya Easterling, our Director of Rental Assistance.

In a time where soaring costs and inflation make housing stability tougher than ever for families across Newark and Essex County, Craig and Latonya didn't just discuss the challenges - they mapped out the solutions.

Latonya shed light on the life-changing work her team at the Rental Assistance Department is doing every single day to protect residents. From providing critical back-rent assistance to preventing wrongful evictions and offering landlord-tenant mediation, Latonya and her team are working tirelessly on the front lines to keep families safely housed and off the streets.

Housing security isn’t just about putting a roof over someone’s head; it’s about providing the stability families need to thrive in every other area of life.
