Join Newark DPW for our Quarterly Shred Fest! Properly dispose of sensitive documents, prevent identity theft, and protect the environment.

The next Shred Fest will be on Saturday, June 20, 2026, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the West & Central Ward Service Center, 244 South 12th Street, Newark, NJ 07107.

This event is for Newark residents ONLY! ID is required to participate. This event is FREE.

Come on down, bring your old documents, and do your part to dispose of your trash the RIGHT way.

Mayor Ras J. Baraka’s “Pothole Blitz” is still going strong!

So far, over 500 potholes have been filled across the city in record time. But the work continues! From Monday, June 1 to Friday, June 5, the Department of Public Works will be in every ward filling potholes on the following schedule:

Monday: Central Ward
Tuesday: East Ward
Wednesday: North Ward
Thursday: South Ward
Friday: West Ward

We couldn’t do it without our residents. Your reports make a difference!

Trash and paper recycling pickup will be CANCELED for Zone A on Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day.

Regular trash collections will resume on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

Please hold your cardboard and paper recycling until next Monday, June 1, 2026.

Newark DPW celebrates Earth Day by recycling E-Waste! ♻️

On Wednesday, Newark residents dropped off old computers, phones, printers, and other electronic waste at DPW and Panasonic’s E-Waste collection event.

Between 7:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., the truck was loaded with old electronics for proper recycling! ♻️ Thank you to all Newark residents who came out.

Newark residents can always drop off their e-waste at DPW Headquarters, 62 Frelinghuysen Avenue during normal business hours, or find an e-waste community collection event (like this one!)
