Welcome our newest officer here at the Newark Division of Police. Officer Jonathan Nightingale joins the Newark Division of Police with two years of law enforcement experience serving with agencies in Central Ohio. He is a graduate of the Columbus Police Training Academy, where he earned his Ohio Peace Officer Training Certification.

In addition to his law enforcement experience, Officer Nightingale has served as a part-time Firefighter/EMT with a Central Ohio department since 2021, further demonstrating his commitment to public service.

Having grown up in a law enforcement family, Officer Nightingale knew from a young age that he wanted to become a police officer. He is especially proud to have the opportunity to serve the community where he grew up and looks forward to beginning this next chapter of his career with the Newark Division of Police.

🚧TRAFFIC ALERT — INTERSTATE 70 CLOSURE🚧

Our partners with Ohio Department of Transportation East Central Ohio District 5 have closed Interstate 70 in both directions at Exit 129 for State Route 79 due to flooding. (What a difference less than four hours makes!) Traffic is being detoured onto U.S. 40 through the Village of Hebron.

Motorists should expect significant increases in traffic and delays throughout the Village while the detour remains in place. If possible, consider an alternate route and allow extra time to reach your destination.

⚠️ Please use caution! With heavier-than-normal traffic, allow plenty of following distance, avoid distractions, and be patient with other motorists. A little extra space and attention can help prevent secondary crashes and keep traffic moving safely.

⚠️ FLOOD SAFETY ALERT ⚠️

Significant flooding is expected overnight as existing groundwater continues to enter local river systems. Rivers in the area are predicted to rise above flood stage during the early morning hours.

Residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas—especially along Raccoon Creek and the Licking River—should take additional safety precautions now. Be prepared to evacuate if conditions worsen or if instructed by emergency officials.

Never drive or walk through floodwater. Turn around, don’t drown.

Please monitor local weather alerts and official updates from local safety services.

Non-emergency telephone, e-mail services, and computer systems at NPD are currently down. This does not affect the Licking County Regional Communication Center or 911.

August 1st 2026, several officers with the Newark Division of Police were honored as our Hometown Heroes along several other veterans of Licking County. The City of Newark should be very proud of these men as they continue to serve our community after serving our country in the greatest military in the world!

A special thank you to Sgt. Jarad Harper who continues to serve our country in the United States Navy and will soon be deployed overseas for a significant period of time.

Thank you to the families of the officers who make constant sacrifices every day, so our heroes can help those in need. Thank you to Maryann Crist (Midland Theatre) and Kelly Jones (Matesich Distributing) for your continued support and congratulations for a fantastic event!

Yesterday, the Newark Division of Police had the privilege of grilling hot dogs and passing out chips, cookies, water and stickers to 110 smiling kids with the local Boys and Girls Club. A big thank you to the Midland Theatre and the Works for allowing us to be a part of the fun filled day! A special thank you to the Newark Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association for donating the food and drinks for the event. And thank you to the Canal Market District for allowing us to use your venue.

Ms. Miller was safely located and is no longer missing at this time.

MISSING ADULT:

On July 27th at approximately 1am, Adisyn Miller was last seen in the area of Ohio Street and South Webb. She left traveling in an unknown direction with an unknown clothing description. Ms. Miller is approximately 5’4” tall with brown/blonde hair and blue eyes. If any of our community members have been in contact with her or have seen her in the area please contact The Police Department at 740-670-7201.
