The Community Health Worker Association of New Jersey This is an organization of Community Health Workers (CHWs) who are based at the Jordan & Harris Community Health Centers in Newark, NJ. What is a CHW?

The US Dept of Labor defines the role of CHWs:
[CHWs] assist individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors. Conduct outreach for medical personnel or health organizations to implement programs in the community that promote, maintain, and improve individual and community health. May provide information on available resources, provide social support and informal counseling, advocate for ind

ividuals and community health needs, and provide services such as first aid and blood pressure screening. May collect data to help identify community health needs. This page is a place for and by Community Health Workers. This is a place for all the CHWs in New Jersey to come together to share ideas and experiences, discuss challenges and support one another. It is a place to network with CHWs worldwide. This organization is open to all who identify as Community Health Workers. Perhaps you do not call yourself a CHW but you are if, on a community level, you educate people to adopt healthy behaviors, you promote health and you help people navigate the healthcare system. You are a CHW so join us and share your experiences! We welcome you!
