For too long we as students are just being told to let the system solve its problems but at the same time, the same problems they try to solve are the same ones we're being forced to endure for the s

ake of a better education. If we as students are supposed to reach our highest potential, then we as students should have the right to have a form of representation so we can truly achieve our fullest potential and be the next leaders of the world, and that is why we are staring the Newark Students Union. It is with heavy hearts that we post about the passing of our friend and mentor, Roberto. Today, we laid him to rest. Roberto Cabañas Jr. was not only a partner in organizing for student rights and education justice within the city, but he developed a relationship with each of us and helped us to grow into better people. Without his guidance, NSU would not have accomplished all that we have in the past 9 years, one victory being the return to full local control.

Since 2012, the beginning of NSU, Roberto was present and by our side as we advocated for a better education for students within Newark and across the nation. Roberto taught us organizing skills and the beauty of community. Most of all, he elevated student voice through every direct action we've planned/ engaged in. We shared many downfalls and even more victories. While this is a large blow to our community, we will hold onto each memory and Roberto’s legacy will always live on.

We love you Roberto. And we know you loved us. Thank you for everything!

Good Evening Everybody!!!

As many of you know the official election for the ‘NEW’ School Board Candidates is tomorrow!! We encourage everyone to come out and VOTE. Though most of us are unable to vote ourselves, we understand that this election is of the utmost importance in shaping our day to day lives as Newark Students. Let’s make tomorrow an Election Day to remember. Below we have our suggested candidates in the lead decided upon thorough careful review and a vote by Newark Students’ Union members.
