One of our loyal followers, Noah P., found this large barrel recently in one of our public recycling bins. The barrel is made of a heavy cardboard/fiber material and has metal ends. While we do normally recycle cardboard (boxes that are flattened) and metal (cans or cups), this item is definitely not something that should have been put in our recycling bins since it's not quite the "style" of cardboard or metal materials we accept. And the size alone is problematic when going through separating machinery (it wouldn't fit). It also took up so much space in the bin! Please do not put such large items in our public recycling bins - they should go in the trash.

CAN I RECYCLE THIS? YES! β™»βœ…

One of our loyal followers, Steph G., asked us about recycling Chinese take out boxes recently. We are happy to say that YES these boxes are recyclable! Please make sure they are free of food, and the metal handle is taken off (put in the trash). Flatten and put in your recycling bin!

Today is National Paper Airplane Day! If you plan on making a paper airplane, try a little REUSE! Use a piece of paper that has printing or writing on it (that you were planning on recycling), instead of using a new piece of paper. You can still recycle the paper after its airplane mission is complete! πŸ“„β™»οΈ

CAN I RECYCLE THIS? NO! 🚫

There are three things in this photo that we do not recycle:
1. Plastic tote
2. Plastic laundry basket
3. Plastic hangers

Reminder - we do NOT look at the recycle symbol or number! Our contractor (Rumpke) who sorts and processes the materials in our public recycling bins throughout Licking County uses the latest and greatest technology that is able to quickly and easily sort plastics without that symbol or number information.

We accept plastics in the shapes of bottles, jugs, tubs, cups, and clamshells. All other plastics should go in the trash (or donated/reused if they are still in good shape).

BUY RECYCLED!

We think it's fun to find items or containers that are made from recycled material - and our latest one is glass cleaner! The bottle is made from 100% recovered ocean plastic. πŸ‘πŸŒŠ

You can recycle this type of bottle, too, when it's empty. Please take the trigger and inside tube out and put those in the trash, though.

One of our followers recently asked about the "lock bars" on our public recycling bins, so we thought it was about time to share this old instructional video again to help! (Video is 40 seconds.)
