Hey Newberg!
If you're downtown this weekend, you might notice the trees on the east side of City Hall wrapped in some orange netting. Don't worry, we don't have an infestation of hi-vis spiders! 🕷️ This netting is meant to protect the trees ahead of some important repairs getting underway soon on our building!

Beginning next week, you can expect to see this sidewalk and some parking spaces along Hancock closed while we work on repairs to the roof of City Hall. We'll need to bring a crane in to bring supplies and tools safely up to the roof, and to bring trash back down.

Heads up Newberg Drivers: a new automated speed camera is coming to downtown, near the intersection of 1st Street and Garfield Avenue. 📸⚠️

Traffic data tells the story that lead to this addition. In just one week, more than 39,000 vehicles exceeded the posted 25 MPH speed limit at that location, and more than 990 were traveling 11 MPH or more over the speed limit. That translates to more than five citable violations every single hour, around the clock. 🚗💨

The new camera is a portable unit (not tied to a traffic signal). Installation is expected in the coming weeks, followed by a testing period before enforcement goes live.

We're saving you money on your bills! 💚
Starting July 1, 2026, the average Newberg resident will save $63.75 per year on their bills, and we want to share exactly how we got here.

Your City opted not to take the 3% property tax increase we were authorized to collect this fiscal year, because our Finance Team and leadership worked hard to keep us in solid fiscal health with no budget deficit. We also paid down a piece of debt two years ahead of schedule, which means the Communication Officer Fee is coming off your billing statement for good.

That's $30.39 saved on property taxes (on avg per year) and $33.36 saved from the retired debt service fee (annually, forever!). This is what exceptional fiscal stewardship looks like, and we're proud to share it with you.

Big news for Newberg residents: the City just paid off a piece of debt two full years early, saving our community roughly $300,000 in interest and removing a line item from the utility bill.
