Congrats to our own Nathalie Hardy for being this year’s recipient of the Crystal Apple. If you have been into our building, you know the reason why she was chosen!

End of the year count: 14,582. That is how many Wolf Bucks were turned in this year. That averages to 35 times this year that each student has been noticed for doing what’s right, doing their best and/or treating others the way they want to be treated. This is the Lorenzen Standard!
Congrats to our grand prize winners- Ben L, Abbie C, Henry M. Each of these students had their name pulled and won a $25 gift card to Amazon.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of celebrating our Students of the Month - students who have demonstrated exceptional perseverance and grit throughout the school year, and beyond. Perseverance and grit are qualities that help students grow not only academically, but also as individuals, and they are deeply connected to our district mission of being Rooted Together, Growing Strong.

Meet Lisa Thomas

At Chehalem Valley Middle School, Lisa Thomas teaches health and leadership to students in grades 6 through 8, helping guide them through some of their most formative middle school years.

Thomas has been in education for 23 years, including seven years in the Newberg School District. In addition to her classroom role, she co-teaches leadership and actively supports students as they transition from middle school to high school.

What she values most about working in Newberg is the opportunity to watch students grow over time.

“I get to see these kids starting in 6th grade, and then carry it through high school,” she said. “It’s a full circle moment.”

For Thomas, the most meaningful part of her work is helping students build a positive school culture and a willingness to try, even when things are difficult.

“Our students really want to make school a positive place,” she shared. “They’re okay with failing, and they’re okay with trying again.”

She says that mindset is one of the things that makes her students especially proud.

“They inspire me to keep working hard because they want to work hard,” she said.

Thomas also highlights the strong sense of connection among staff at Chehalem Valley Middle School, noting that even lunchtime reflects the building's culture.

“People actually go to the staff room and eat lunch together,” she said. “It shows we care about each other and want to be connected.”

One of her favorite moments from this year came during the senior grad walk, when former students returned to campus. As part of a leadership project, students created certificates featuring their sixth and eighth-grade photos with the message “Once part of the Wolfpack, always part of the Wolfpack.”

Seeing students return years later made the experience especially meaningful.

“It really showed what a full circle moment that was,” Thomas said.

For her, those moments capture the heart of middle school: growth, connection, and lasting impact.
