Newbern Volunteer Fire Department not only fights fires within the city limits of Newbern, TN, but also most of Dyer County and aids in mutual aid for the surrounding towns/cities and counties. The Newbern Fire Department was established in 1912 as a bucket brigade and has progressed through the years to the current department headed by Fire Chief Phillip Cottrell. ly has 20 firefighters with three engine trucks, one tanker truck, and two rescue trucks. Newbern Volunteer Fire Department has two paramedics that teach CPR/BLS classes for those whom wish to become certified or for refresher courses.
