In observance of Labor Day, the City of Newburgh’s non-emergency departments will be closed on Monday, September 7.

Please note the following changes to the sanitation collection schedule:

Sectors with pickup scheduled for Monday will be picked up on Tuesday, September 8.

Sectors with pickup scheduled for Tuesday will be picked up on Wednesday, September 9.

There will be no bulk or yard waste pickup on Wednesday, September 9.

Thursday and Friday pickup are not affected.

🚧 TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF ACTIVITY CENTER PARKING LOT 🚧

Please be advised that the Activity Center parking lot, located at the Delano-Hitch Park, 401 Washington Street, will be temporarily closed to all vehicles beginning Monday, August 31, 2026, for restriping. The parking lot will reopen for regular use once all work is complete.

Temporary NO PARKING signs will be posted in advance of the work and will remain in place until the restriping is complete. All vehicles must be removed from the parking lot prior to 7:00 AM.

Vehicles parked in violation of these parking restrictions WILL BE TOWED.

CITY OF NEWBURGH TO HOST SEPTEMBER 11TH REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY

The City of Newburgh will host a solemn ceremony to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. The event will be held on September 11th at 8:30 AM at the Park Place 9/11 Memorial.

This ceremony will be a remembrance of our neighbors, friends, and family from Newburgh and Orange County who died on that day, died in the years since, and those who continue to succumb to the effects of the attack.

All members of the community are invited to attend this important event to pay their respects and remember those who were affected by the attacks.

lease be advised that the City of Newburgh Planning Board has changed its regular meeting times from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The first meeting affected will be the September 15, 2026, meeting.

The Planning Board’s regular meeting day will remain unchanged. Meetings will continue to be held on the third Tuesday of each month in the Activity Center located at 401 Washington Street, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Due to construction activities, Xavier Lunan Park, located at 66 Courtney Avenue, will be closed on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The park will reopen and resume regular operating hours the following day.

📣 CITY OF NEWBURGH ANNOUNCES DOWNTOWN PARKING SURVEY📣

As part of the City-wide parking study, the project team wants to hear from the community on both current and future parking needs.

The City of Newburgh Planning & Development Department is conducting a City-wide parking study to evaluate the availability of public parking and to provide recommendations to address current and future parking needs. The Project Team wants to hear from residents, business owners, property owners, visitors, and other community members about their experience with parking in the City. The Survey is currently live and will remain open until Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The Survey can be accessed through the links below or by visiting the Planning & Development Department’s initiatives page.

The Survey is part of a larger study that will be completed by the end of the year and examines the following topics:
•The feasibility of establishing a residential parking permit in the neighborhood of Montefiore St. Luke’s Hospital
• The creation of a standard on-street ADA parking space, including a phased plan to implement on-street ADA parking spaces in several downtown neighborhoods
• A review of the City’s minimum off-street parking standards in Chapter 300 of the City’s Zoning Code

🚧 TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE – LIBERTY STREET BETWEEN BROAD STREET AND CLINTON STREET🚧

Due to tree maintenance work, Liberty Street will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic between Broad Street and Clinton Street until further notice.

Construction work is weather-dependent and may be adjusted based on field conditions. Motorists and pedestrians are urged to follow all posted detour signs, traffic control devices, signage, cones, and flagging personnel to ensure safe travel around the work zone.

🎡CITY OF NEWBURGH TO HOST 37TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND🎡

The 37th Annual City of Newburgh International Festival will take place over Labor Day Weekend, Friday, September 4th – Sunday, September 6th, at Delano-Hitch Recreation Park, 401 Washington Street.

Join with the City of Newburgh to celebrate the end of Summer with food, games, rides, and spectacular fireworks show on Sunday, September 6th. The fireworks show will begin at approximately 9:00 p.m. at the Delano-Hitch Recreation Park.

International Festival Schedule:

Friday, September 4th: 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 5th: 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Sunday, September 6th: 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.; Fireworks begin at 9:00 p.m.
