Hi All, Kristin here! I have been busy finishing my NPS internship & overdue schoolwork & will post an update very very soon about research/writing opportunities for Weigand’s this summer (sorry, still no digging). BUT I just had to call out one of our volunteer superstars, Holly Walters, who just completed her Certificate in Historic Preservation at Westchester Community College!!🎉🎉🎉Congratulations on this great accomplishment Holly, thank you for all of your hard work at Weigand’s, & I know we’re all rooting for you as you take the next steps in your career in historic preservation!!

2024 Historic Preservation Certificate graduating class (minus a few graduates) - Westchester Community College at Valhalla - l to r Brian Riccardi, Bonnie Ricci, Alan Strauber (Prof & Program Coordinator), Elaine Provenzano, Holly Walters & Josephine Lariccia. Congratulations All!!!!

We started today with finishing cataloging & photographing Day 11, thrilled to finish just in time to switch to interpretation by noon!

If anyone has pics from the interpretation session, please post them to the Group. It went great!! It was wonderful to meet more new people & to see so many people from throughout this project. Can’t lie, I teared up saying goodbyes & getting hugs & thanks. This is such a positive community-driven project, happy to have had this experience with all of you!

I’ll create a post soon about continuing research opportunities. I’ll be writing 2 things about our work & would love to include community-generated research about the artifacts & site. If you’re interested in researching any artifacts & writing them up, you can be credited as a research contributor or, if you want to do substantial writing, co-author credit. Please reach out to me (Kristin) if you’re interested & I’ll post soon about this with more detail.

Thanks again, you incredible Community! We accomplished some great work in the last year & it would never have happened without you!💚

We made a video explaining the project & hope it will get more people interested! Thanks to videographer Mike Perillo & property owner Thomas Dodd for making this video happen.

This page’s settings have always been set to allow anyone in the public to create & publish a new post on the page, no reviewing needed. It only just came to my attention that there isn’t a button to provide everyone with the option to do that. Sorry about this, I’ve reported the issue to FB & hope to fix it soon. This archaeo project is all about people sharing knowledge with each other & this page is supposed to be a tool to foster that.

It was so great to see everyone who came out on Sunday 3/3 & thanks for your help! We made it through Days 1-4, here are some highlights from the day. Special thanks also to Stephanie Tice Benson for teaching us about historic ceramic ware types while recording the catalog & then speed sorting all of the glass from Days 1-10😱😍!!

Looking forward to seeing people tomorrow at the site, 10am - 4pm! Thanks to property owner Thomas Burr Dodd for continually sharing this historic space with the public. Thanks a million to Holly Walters and Katherine Clyne for taking home artifacts to clean! Stephanie Tice Benson is bringing enough equipment tomorrow for us to set up a cataloging assembly line & many thanks to her in advance for sharing her artifact typing expertise so we can get this finished together!

Tomorrow, we’ll pin a link on this page to an open access Google Drive, where we will post the resulting digital catalog with photos & collaborative research documents. See you soon!
