Our friend at Worth Preserving, Kate Wood is hosting a session called Historic Tax Credits 101: Financial Resources for Historic Property Owners in New York — a practical overview of how the state and federal tax credit programs work, who qualifies, and how to approach a project strategically from the start.

Many owners don’t realize what’s available to them, or they come to the process too late. You'll learn how historic rehabilitation tax credits can significantly reduce the overall expense of investments in eligible historic properties, from a new roof to updated bathrooms, mechanical systems, routine maintenance and more.

They drew particular inspiration from the work of Jane Jacobs, the journalist whose 1961 book, “The Death and Life of Great American Cities,” had inspired a groundswell of nationwide activism supporting historic preservation. And in 1968, when they started their firm, the partners chose Greenwich Village, the Manhattan neighborhood that Ms. Jacobs had put at the center of her book, as the location for their first office.

The last surviving founder of Beyer Blinder Belle, he helped safeguard New York City’s past even as developers raced to push the city into the future.

The Fullerton announced today a grant award totaling $10,000 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the arts and culture sector. Through New York State’s continued investment in arts and culture, NYSCA has awarded $80.9 million in FY 2026 to arts and culture nonprofits across all 10 regions and a historic number of artists.
“New York’s arts and culture sector is a cornerstone of the state’s identity, and we’re making bold investments to ensure it remains strong,” Governor Hochul said. “These grants will lift up artists and organizations in every region, fueling local economies and expanding access to the arts. Congratulations to all the grantees – your talent and dedication help power New York’s future.”

November Meeting: Join us at the Elks Club (900 Wolcott Avenue) November 25 at 7 p.m. for what promises to be an outstanding program! Researcher and Author Michael Green will present “Culture Sisters: The DeWints of Fishkill Landing,” an evening dedicated to the story of four remarkable women who led exceptional lives after being raised at the waterfront estate Cedar Grove (shown), the homestead of the DeWints, once located near today’s Bank Street and lost to fire in 1862.

Mr. Green, who recently retired from a 40-year career as an attorney and financial advisor, now devotes the bulk of his time to researching the Hudson Valley’s social and cultural history. Much of this work stems from material that he gathered in the process of renovating Newburgh's 1868 Fullerton Mansion.

As always, if you are unable to join us in person, we make every effort to stream our monthly meetings live via a Zoom link on the bottom of the front page of our website below. (Previous meetings can be found under the Past Events tab on that website.) Our meetings also appear on Beacon Cable Channel 22 seven days a week, with the latest video appearing each night at 9:30 p.m. and the previous month each morning at 10:00 a.m. All free for you to enjoy!

The latest history talks, historical walking tours, our annual "friend-raisers" and more. Check back often and join us!
