On Mondays we drill! 🚨

Tonight, our members and cadets practiced utilizing a very helpful and versatile tool; airbags. No, not the airbags in your car. Rescue airbags are tools allow us to lift, move, or stabilize heavy objects like collapsed buildings, industrial machinery, or vehicles pinned over victims.

Our members and cadets also learned a valuable phrase tonight: “lift an inch, crib an inch.” While the airbags are useful, you should always have a safety mechanism in place should the airbag fail. Cribbing, usually wooden or plastic blocks, is put under the object to stabilize it to ensure it won’t immediately slam down should the airbag fail.

If you’d like to learn how to utilize airbags and the many other tools we have at our disposal, come on down Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-9 to get an application, apply online, or send us a message and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Stay safe! đźš’

Today at 0921 hours, we were dispatched to assist Plattekill Fire Department with a rollover bus accident on Interstate 87 at mile marker 69 northbound with our Rescue 303 and manpower.

Upon arrival of our Rescue, our Engine 304 and additional manpower was requested to the scene.

Prior to our arrival, all patients had exited the bus via its emergency exit, and the front windshield. Our firefighters assisted EMS with care of patients, and mitigating hazards on the bus before standing by to ensure the safety of the vehicle and personnel on scene while the heavy duty tows began their operations.

Cronomer Valley units were released by Plattekill command at 1228.
