The City of Newburgh Fire Department is established in Article XII of the City Charter and currently organized under a Fire Chief and other members as the City Manager creates with approval by the City Council. The Fire Chief is appointed by the City Manager under City Charter §12.02 and has administrative responsibility for firefighting and fire prevention activities including code enforcement as

directed by the City Manager. The Fire Department consist of a Bureau of Fire, Bureau of Fire Prevention; and Bureau of Code Compliance.

The City of Newburgh today announces its annual Memorial Day Parade is set for Monday, May 25 at 10:00am. Line-up for the parade will begin at 9:15 a.m. Immediately following the parade, memorial services will be held at Washington's Headquarters, located at 84 Liberty Street, beginning at approximately 11:15 a.m. All are invited to attend and honor our deceased veterans.

The City of Newburgh’s Memorial Day observances will also include a flag distribution at the Activity Center, located at 401 Washington Street, Newburgh, NY 12550, on Saturday, May 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

🔴FIRE AT 357 ANN STREET🔴

On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at approximately 4:41 am, the City of Newburgh Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 357 Ann Street. Upon arrival, fire crews confirmed a working fire along the side of the building that had spread to the interior of the structure.

City of Newburgh Firefighters deployed two hand lines to extinguish all visible fire. With the help of responding mutual aid, the fire was contained before being fully extinguished. One firefighter has been sent to the hospital for evaluation and was subsequently discharged.

Mutual aid and support were provided by Stewart Air Guard Fire Department, Beacon FD, West Point FD and the Dan Leghorn Engine Company. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and remains under investigation.

The City of Newburgh announces that City Hall will reopen to the public on Tuesday, February 24th with all City services and offices fully operational, following Orange County’s decision to lift the Local State of Emergency.

The City Council meeting originally scheduled for February 23rd has been rescheduled for Monday, March 2, 2026, beginning at 7:00 PM at Council Chambers.

In alignment with Orange County’s recently declared Local State of Emergency, all non-essential City offices will be closed on Monday, February 23, 2026. City of Newburgh residents are advised to refrain from travel unless they are deemed essential personnel. The City Council meeting previously scheduled for February 23rd is cancelled and will be rescheduled once conditions allow. The City’s emergency departments will remain open to support public safety and critical operations.

🔴 FIRE AT 64 HENRY AVE 🔴

On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at approximately 12:50 pm, the City of Newburgh Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire at 68 Henry Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews confirmed a working fire on the second floor of 64 Henry Avenue and were able to confirm that all the occupants were out of the building.

City of Newburgh Firefighters began working to extinguish the fire and command requested a second alarm. They were able to hold the fire from spreading further and with the help of responding mutual aid were able to quickly extinguish the fire. The fire was fully extinguished, and companies were back in service at 3:50 pm.

Mutual aid and support were provided by Air Guard Fire Department, Beacon FD, West Point FD and New Windsor F. Middle Hope and Cronomer Valley fire departments were on standby at their Fire Headquarters.

The City of Newburgh thanks the assisting fire departments for their support and cooperation. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and remains under investigation.

Please be advised there are temporary parking restrictions on City-owned municipal parking lots, will be in effect overnight from January 28 at 6:00 PM through January 29 at 6:00 AM to allow for the snow removal in. All vehicles must be removed from the municipal lots listed below during this time. Vehicles found parked in violation will be ticketed and may be towed to ensure snow removal can be conducted safely and efficiently.

City Manager Todd Venning has announced that the snow emergency in the City of Newburgh has been cancelled effective at 6:00 PM on January 27, 2026.

To allow for upcoming snow removal in City-owned municipal parking lots, temporary parking restrictions will be in effect overnight from January 28 at 6:00 PM through January 29 at 6:00 AM. All vehicles must be removed from the municipal lots listed below during this time. Vehicles found parked in violation will be ticketed and may be towed to ensure snow removal can be conducted safely and efficiently.

The City of Newburgh announces that City Hall will reopen to the public on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, with all City services and offices fully operational, following Orange County’s decision to lift the Local State of Emergency.

The City Council meeting originally scheduled for January 26 has been rescheduled for Monday, February 2, 2026, beginning at 7:00 PM at Council Chambers.

While County restrictions have been lifted, the City of Newburgh remains under a Snow Emergency. Residents are reminded that Snow Emergency parking regulations continue to be enforced. Vehicles parked in violation of emergency parking rules may be ticketed and towed to allow for continued snow removal and emergency access. Parking is permitted in City-owned municipal parking lots located on:

• Ann Street
• Van Ness Street (between Fullerton and Prospect Streets)
• Chambers Street

The City appreciates the public’s cooperation during this weather event and encourages residents to continue following Snow Emergency guidelines until the emergency is lifted. For updates, please visit the City’s website and official social media channels.
