Newbury Food Pantry

Newbury Food Pantry Providing food assistance to our neighbors in need Care is taken to protect the many volunteers who make the Food Pantry successful, as well as its clients.

With the current pandemic, hundreds of families, elders and individuals receive food each week through direct delivery and drive through pick up in accordance with strict CDC and Commonwealth of Massachusetts pandemic health guidelines. During this time, our chapel has not been available for services, and with the continual increase in need, the Food Pantry is using all of the chapel, with food pr

oducts separated for delivery package assembly in the chapel pews, foyer and around the altar. Clients order food online during the day Wednesday and through Noon on Thursday. Distribution is on Fridays (except on major holidays). Place your order here: https://www.newburyfoodpantry.org/get-food

Delivery is available for those who do not have transportation or who are immune compromised. Deliveries are made between 10 am and 1pm on Fridays. For pickup orders, a volunteer will call you after you place your order in order to tell you what time you should arrive at the church to pick up your order. Pickups take place between 2:45 and 5 pm. When you arrive, display your name on a piece of paper and wait in the car while we retrieve and load your groceries into your trunk. If you don’t have internet to place an order or if you have other questions, please call us at (978) 358-1077. Due to the volume of need at this time, we currently only have capacity to serve the residents of Byfield, Newbury, Newburyport, Georgetown, Ipswich, West Newbury, Rowley and Salisbury and Plum Island.

The bi-annual Lions Club Food Drive took place on Saturday May 2, outside of the Newburyport Market Basket. The young up-and-coming members of the club called LEOS again worked this event. They packed 345 shopping bags with staple grocery items that shoppers could purchase, and the contents were donated to the food pantry. In total, we received 3,500 pounds of food plus $1,200 in cash. These contributions exceeded the donations we received from last year’s May event.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are so grateful to all the LEOS who contributed their time to this very successful event. Thank you so much!!

The Girl Scouts who previously painted our bagging tables recently took the initiative to collect and fold bags for the pantry.

Their effort supports a key part of our operations and helps keep distribution running smoothly. Contributions like this—thoughtful, practical, and community-driven—make a meaningful impact for the guests we serve.

We appreciate their continued support and commitment 👏

The holidays don’t happen without helpers like this 🤍
Kathie and Hilda are preparing Christmas turkeys and hams for our neighbors—and we need more hands to help make it happen.

Volunteers needed!
As our work has grown, so has our need for volunteers—especially Wednesday through Saturday. Help is needed with calling guests, organizing orders, packing bags, unloading trucks, bagging groceries, loading cars, deliveries, stocking shelves, and more.

Our volunteers say it best:
“It’s a pleasure to work with such friendly, organized people.”
“So glad to be part of this community effort.”
“Important work, welcoming people, and a great cause.”

If you have a little time to give, you can make a big difference for local families this Christmas.

A look back to September 6th…

The Essex Ensemble under the direction of pantry volunteer and Oboist Andrew Price, performed a beautiful program of Handel, Mozart and Bach all while the threat of a rain storm was looming. That did not deter them or the many attendees who arrived prepared to enjoy the evening. In anticipation, our fabulous team of volunteers kicked into action and moved all of the seating from outside to inside The Barn creating a “Concert in the Round” so everyone had a good view of the performance. It was quite an accomplishment!

We are so grateful to Andrew and his ensemble of gifted musicians: Colin Davis (Violin), Susan Shipley (Violin), Stephen Dyball (Viola) and Melanie Dyball (Cello), for yet again, agreeing to entertain us at this fundraiser at Maudslay Arts Center. A big thanks to all of you ensemble members.

The night was a success. Between tickets sales and refreshments purchased we netted $4,500. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful event.

A special shout out goes to Cathy Utt and Caroline Monahan who led the charge and planned and orchestrated the entire evening. Also, thanks go to Patty Doggett and Mary Murray who set up and ran of the refreshment table. Last but not least, we thank the many volunteers who set up the “Concert in the Round”, greeted and checked in attendees, and helped with the even flow of the evening.

This past Friday, we filled 371 orders serving 903 individuals.

We distributed 208 turkeys — over one ton of Thanksgiving fixings — to ensure our guests had everything they needed for the holiday.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible volunteers and the generous support of our community.

Thank you for showing up in such a big way! 🤍

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!
