Their commitment to something greater than themselves continues to inspire generations of Americans. On this Memorial Day, we pause to reflect on their courage, honor their memory, and express our gratitude for the freedoms they helped preserve.

During National Police Week, we’re proud to recognize the partnerships that help keep our community strong.

The Chickasaw Nation’s Lighthorse Police Department and the Newcastle Police Department share a common mission: protecting the people they serve. Whether working special events, responding to incidents, or coordinating efforts around Chickasaw Nation properties such as Newcastle Casino, these officers work side by side and look out for one another.

During National Police Week, we thank the men and women of both agencies for their dedication, professionalism, and service. Together, they help make our community safer and stronger.

The Newcastle Police Department would like to congratulate Corporal Jared Slentz on successfully completing the Federal Bureau of Investigation Crisis Negotiators training.

This specialized training focused on communication and negotiation skills used during crisis situations, with the goal of helping officers slow situations down, keep communication open, and work toward peaceful resolutions whenever possible.

Corporal Slentz is now a member of the Newcastle Police Department Negotiators Team and will serve as an additional resource during incidents requiring crisis intervention and negotiation.

A lot of police work depends on patience, judgment, and the ability to stay calm when situations are tense. We are proud of Corporal Slentz for continuing to take on opportunities like this and for the role he serves within our department and community.

Congratulations to Sergeant Jones and Corporal Slentz on completing a 46-hour law enforcement driver instructor course this week.

They are now certified to help train other officers in safe vehicle operations and emergency driving situations here in our department.

We are proud to have officers who are willing to take on additional responsibilities and help strengthen the people around them. Training like this makes the entire department better.

It also means Sergeant Jones and Corporal Slentz are now professionally qualified to judge the rest of us for how we park.

Some of the most difficult calls officers respond to involve people experiencing mental illness, addiction, or emotional distress.

Last week, Officer Josiah Roane completed Oklahoma’s 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training — an intensive program that brings officers together with mental health professionals, social workers, addiction specialists, and crisis advocates to better prepare them for those situations.

The training helps officers recognize when a situation may need patience, communication, compassion, or medical help before anything else.

We’re proud of Officer Roane for completing this important training, which is part of the Newcastle Police Department’s commitment to ensuring every officer receives CIT certification.
