Thank you for sharing your story with me and for all the important work you are doing at The Lens of Youth to promote inclusion and understanding for youth with I/DD. I appreciated our conversation and learning more about your mission. As both a teacher and an elected official, this work is very close to my heart. Nearly 500 people packed Renton Technical College on 7/23 for the sold-out 6th Annual King County Substance Use Recovery Conference — Forward Together. 💙

My first time attending as an elected official and longtime educator, I came to listen and learned so much. The dedication in that room was so moving.

Thank you to Councilmember Reagan Dunn for launching this conference in 2021 and growing it into what it is today. This is truly life-saving work.

We heard from treatment providers, community partners, state/county/city/tribal leaders, and our keynote Regina LaBelle (Georgetown, former Acting Director of White House Office of National Drug Control Policy) on how aligned policy + community partnership advances recovery.

“Recovery isn't created by an isolated program... It's a lifelong, shared commitment to creating a future where recovery is within reach for everyone.”

Grateful to Public Health - Seattle & King County, King County DCHS, King County Recovery Coalition, Washington Recovery Alliance, Renton Technical College, Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, and Renton Tech’s Wellbriety Center. Powerful youth stories, and big news from Seattle Indian Health Board on reopening Thunderbird Treatment Center on Vashon Island.

After years of increases, overdose deaths are finally declining, but fentanyl remains a serious threat — 927 deaths in King County in 2025, 76% involving fentanyl. We must stay focused.

What a night! 🎶☀️ Thank you to our incredible community for a fabulous kickoff to Concerts in the Park on 7/22.

⚓ Our first concert theme was Rock the Boat Night! So fun to see folks in their best island and nautical attire setting sail for a night of live music with The Profits at Lake Boren Park. ⛵
It made my heart sing to see such a big crowd at the first concert of the season. 💙

Huge thanks to The Profits for the dance hits, AT Productions for the amazing sound, and to our City of Newcastle, Washington - Government-City crew, CAC, Newcastle PD, Newcastle Police Department, the Newcastle Arts Council, and Hazen & Liberty High School Robotics for joining the fun.

Great evening connecting with fellow SCA members and partners from across the County at Lake Wilderness Lodge in Maple Valley — proud to be there representing the City of Newcastle, Washington - Government.

So wonderful to see Shannon Braddock again — our featured speaker! Thank you, Shannon, CEO and President of the Greater Seattle Partnership, for taking the time to share your insights about working together to grow our economy and enhance our quality of living, and for answering my question among others. I truly look forward to our collaboration and partnership — it matters so much!
