This free guided hike will begin at 10 a.m. at the Gate Lodge, and include a one-mile hike to the Farm. Wear clothes and shoes that are suitable for a two-mile roundtrip hike and bring plenty of water.

It's , and today we're highlighting one of the Santanoni Preserve's year-round residents: the red squirrel. Although the Pruyns weren't fans (red squirrels often raided the corn supply meant for the Farm's livestock) we think red squirrels make a great addition to the . You can hear them chattering in any season, and occasionally, as was the case here, see them exploring the Gate Lodge porch!

On this , we're looking back at the . The Boathouse was a hub of activity during the period of private ownership, but was on the verge of collapse by the early 1990s. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Boathouse underwent a major restoration project led by Master Craftsman Michael Frenette. Today, the Boathouse is a great place to catch views of Newcomb Lake and Baldwin and Moose Mountains!

Did you know?

Camp Santanoni wasn't the Pruyn family's only vacation getaway. In 1897, the Pruyns became members of the Jekyll Island Club Resort, located on Jekyll Island on the Georgia Coast. They often spent their winters there at the condominium known as Sans Souci (second photo), where their neighbors included William Rockefeller and J.P. Morgan.

The Pruyns were active club members, and became avid golfers during their time on Jekyll Island.

didn't sit idle while the Pruyns were down south, however. Friends of the Pruyns, like the artist Walter Launt Palmer, made use of the camp in the Pruyns' absence, and many staff, including caretakers and farm workers, lived with their families at the Santanoni Preserve year round.
