Help Us Preserve Santanoni
This page is operated by the Friends of Camp Santanoni. Join us to help preserve and interpret this spectacular place!
Santanoni is a present-day refuge of contemplative beauty and a step back into a different age. A National Historic Landmark, it is the premier example of an Adirondack Great Camp, one of the few remaining, and the only one that is publicly owned.
Santanoni was built for Robert and Anna Pruyn of Albany beginning in 1892. The estate eventually included 12,900 acres and nearly four-dozen buildings. Since 1972 the Santanoni Preserve has been owned by New York State. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a National Historic Landmark. The partnership that manages Santanoni, Adirondack Architectural Heritage, the Town of Newcomb, and the Department of Environmental Conservation, is working together to preserve and gradually restore the buildings while welcoming and interpreting the site for visitors. While remarkable progress has been made, our work isn't over yet! Many of Santanoni's buildings still need repair and restoration while others, like the Santanoni barn, lost to fire, will be rebuilt completely. In addition, the work of fully interpreting the site, developing new programming, and sparking curiosity is ongoing.
Anyone of any age who visits Santanoni leaves with a sense of wonder at the extraordinary architecture, natural beauty, and its grandeur and place in Adirondack history. Preserving and restoring it and telling the stories of the people who worked, played, lived and visited here is possible only with your help. If you love this special place and believe in its preservation and use, please support the Friends of Camp Santanoni. The Friends directly contribute to the ongoing preservation, interpretation, and use of Camp Santanoni through volunteer work, promotion, contributions and fundraising, and programs and publications.
