PRESS RELEASE – VIOLENT DOMESTIC ASSAULT ARREST

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, officers from the Newfields Police Department responded to a residence on Piscassic Road following a 911 call reporting a domestic assault.

Upon arrival, a responding officer observed the suspect destroy the front door before entering the residence and barricading himself inside a bathroom. The individual was subsequently identified as:

James Graham, Age 47

Through the investigation, officers determined that Graham, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, had violently assaulted multiple family members, including his mother, father, and brother. The incident involved significant physical aggression, including forcibly dragging his mother by her hair.

Additional assistance was requested from the Newmarket and Epping Police Departments, as well as Newfields Fire and Newmarket Fire.

Graham refused repeated commands to exit the bathroom. Officers subsequently made entry and encountered Graham, who resisted arrest. Following a brief struggle and the deployment of a conducted electrical weapon (Taser), officers were able to take him into custody. He was later transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for evaluation.

The involved family members were treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and later released.

Graham has been charged with the following offenses:
• Domestic Violence – Simple Assault (6 counts)
• Criminal Mischief
• Resisting Arrest
• Obstructing the Report of a Crime
• Breach of Bail (2 counts)

Graham has an extensive criminal history and was on bail for 2 other NH cases. He is also on probation for a domestic violence stalking conviction out of Maine. He is currently being held on preventative detention at the Rockingham County Jail.

The Newfields Police Department would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance:
• Newmarket Police Department
• Epping NH Police Department
• Newfields Fire Department
• Newmarket Fire & Rescue
• NH Department of Corrections
