The ice rink at NPS is closed and the liner is destined for the transfer station unless someone could use it! Reach out to Newington Town Hall at 603.436.7640. Thanks!

Liner size is approx 40ftx40ft

Some good reuses are as follows:

Outdoor & Gardening Uses

W**d Barrier for Landscaping: Lay it under gravel or mulch for large areas. Since it’s waterproof, you may want to puncture it for drainage unless you are trying to kill off a patch of invasive brush.

DIY Pond Liner: If the liner is still relatively hole-free, it can be doubled up to create a backyard pond or a water feature.

Compost Cover: Keep your compost pile at the right temperature and moisture level by covering it during heavy rains or winter months.

Raised Bed Liner: Line the bottom of wooden raised garden beds to prevent wood rot and keep invasive roots from climbing into your good soil.

Home & Construction Projects

Crawl Space V***r Barrier: Use sections of the liner to cover the ground in a crawl space to prevent moisture from rising into the house structure.

Drop Cloth for Painting/Renovation: Because it is so thick, it won't tear like cheap plastic sheeting when you move ladders or tools over it.

Lumber/Woodpile Cover: It’s much more durable than standard blue tarps and will keep your seasoned wood dry through the rain and snow.

Temporary Roof Patch: In an emergency, a piece of rink liner is heavy enough to hold up against wind and rain until a proper repair can be made.

Recreational & Fun Uses

Giant Slip 'n Slide: This is the most popular secondary use. Lay it on a hill, add a little dish soap and water, and you have a commercial-grade water slide.

Outdoor Movie Screen: If the liner is white on one side (as most are), you can stretch a section over a wooden frame or the side of a garage for a high-quality projector screen.

Camping Groundcover: Place it under a large tent to prevent moisture from seeping through the floor and to protect the tent from rocks and roots.

Farm & Industrial Uses

Silage Cover: Use it to cover hay bales or feed to protect them from the elements.
Truck Bed Liner: Cut a piece to fit your truck bed when hauling messy loads like mulch, gravel, or wet leaves to make cleanup effortless.

Equipment Cover: Large enough to cover a tractor, mower, or boat for winter storage.

Please be advised that the City of Portsmouth will be conducting hydrant flushing during the evening hours from 7pm-11pm on Wednesday, April 8, Thursday, April 9 , Monday, April 13 and Tuesday April 14.

During this time, you may experience temporary water discoloration or fluctuations in water pressure. After hydrant flushing, it’s best to avoid running your hot water for a short period because the process can stir up sediment (like rust and minerals) in the water mains. If you run hot water right away, that sediment can be drawn into your water heater and settle in the tank.

This can:
• Reduce the efficiency of your water heater
• Cause discoloration in your hot water for a longer period
• Potentially shorten the lifespan of the unit
Instead, run your cold water first until it clears. Once the cold water is running clean, it’s safe to use your hot water again.

For more information please reach out to the City of Portsmouth DPW @ 603.427.1530

Thinking about doing some open burning this weekend? Make safety your first step and closely supervise outdoor fires.

Before you burn:
• Check your local ordinances to confirm open burning is allowed.
• Get a fire permit from your local fire department or forest fire warden.
• Have water and tools on hand so you can put the fire out immediately if needed.
• Get written permission from the landowner if the property isn’t yours.

If it's too hot to touch, then it is too hot to leave. Fully extinguish a fire before leaving. This time of year, outdoor fires start to rise and brush fires can quickly drain firefighter time and resources. A little preparation goes a long way in keeping your community safe.

🚧 Seasonal Road Postings in Effect 10 Ton Limit 🚧

With warming daytime temperatures and frost still present in the ground, the Town of Newington is posting town roads with a 10-ton weight limit until further notice.

During this time of year, the freeze–thaw cycle causes the road base to become soft and vulnerable to damage. Heavy vehicles traveling on these roads can cause significant deterioration, including cracking, rutting, and potholes. Posting the roads helps protect our infrastructure and reduce costly repairs later in the year.

These seasonal weight restrictions apply to all non-exempt vehicles exceeding 10 tons on posted town roads.
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience as we work to protect Newington’s roadways during the spring thaw. Road postings will remain in place until the ground fully thaws and road conditions improve.

If you have questions, please contact Newington Town Hall 603.436.7640

Thank you for helping us keep our roads in good condition! 🚚❄️➡️🌷
