Inspired by Save Mill Pond, Gary Byron went to the Capitol in 2014 focused on results for Newington – and he succeeded! Byron blocked not one but TWO of Governor Malloy’s eminent domain bills (HB-6851 and SB-19) that would have usurped local authority and given new eminent domain powers to The Governor’s appointed bureaucrats to seize private property within a ½ mile radius of the busway. And he h
asn’t stopped there, rolling up an impressive record of accomplishments to help save the middle-class with an intense focus on making life better for Newington residents. Gary voted NO in opposing both of Governor Malloy’s reckless budgets, including the second largest tax increase in Connecticut history. A proponent for smaller, more efficient government with a priority on helping our most vulnerable citizens. Here are some of Representative Gary Byron’s other accomplishments:
• Championed the ‘Pro-Jobs, Pro Growth, Pro-Entrepreneur’ proposal
• Co-Sponsored a major bill to assist veteran-owned small businesses
• Introduced a bill to toughen animal cruelty penalties. This bill passed both the House and Senate unanimously, a rare feat for a freshman legislator in the minority party.
• Co-Sponsored legislation to strengthen human trafficking laws
• Co-Sponsored legislation to provide cancer coverage for CT Firefighters
• Co-Sponsored and strongly supported legislation to require coverage for 3-D imaging (Tomosynthesis) breast cancer screening for all women in Connecticut
• Fought tirelessly to push for greater access for families with intellectually disabled individuals to information from the state Department of Developmental Services and address the need for multi-year planning
Won the 2016 "Legislator Of The Year" award from the North Central Mental Health Board for his tireless advocacy for those with mental health issues. His work is far from done. It's always people over politics, and Newington first! Please vote for Gary Byron to represent Newington's 27th District in November.
