Today is Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day, and we're honoring the dedicated men and women who selflessly serve their communities.

Volunteer firefighters respond to emergencies at all hours, train year-round, and sacrifice time with their families to help others when they're needed most.

To every volunteer firefighter across the country: thank you for your courage, your commitment, and everything you do to keep your communities safe.

Please avoid all outdoor burning and be mindful of outdoor activities that might spark a wildfire! With hot and dry conditions persisting along with intensifying drought conditions, wildland fuels have become more receptive to ignition. Please do your part to prevent wildfires.

Excessive heat and primarily dry conditions are forecasted through the week ahead. Wildfire activity is expected to increase although initial attack efforts are expected to remain successful. Western Oklahoma remains in the grips of drought that extends into some areas of central Oklahoma. With the heat and building separation from wetting rainfall, a modest uptick in wildfire activity is expected coupled with increased resistance to control where drought indices in the extreme to exceptional classification persist in western Oklahoma. Large fire potential remains limited to areas where terrain and/or vegetation limit access while significant fire potential is low.

Please refrain or delay outdoor burning activities if possible. Escaped debris burns, outdoor welding and haying operations are common wildfire causes during the summer months. Consider the following if engaging in those activities:
• Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and inspected daily.
• Have a means of fire suppression on hand such as a fire extinguisher, water source and/or a rake or shovel.
• If welding outdoors, post a look out and work over welding mats or blankets.
• If debris burning, make proper notifications and stay with your burn until fully extinguished

Glad we were asked to be a part of this great community event, look forward to the rematch next year.

Thank you so much Newkirk citizens for making this a great event! We appreciate this community more than you know! We hoped you all had a blast as much as we did. Thank you again, Newkirk! This is why we love this community! We will definitely see you again next year!

Please share any pictures or videos you wish to share with us. We would like to make a scrapbook and keep it at the station being that this is the first time we’ve ever done this. We would appreciate it.

Hey, Newkirk! Are you ready?! July 19th starting at 3:00 PM it is the fire department vs. you! We will bring our water and you bring yours. You can use anything at your disposal. Water hose, water balloons, super soakers, etc. Just remember to have fun. Also, we won’t discriminate. If you’re outside when we come by you’re probably getting wet. This is fun for the whole town! We will see you on the streets soon!

Also, rules and safety information will be posted on the 18th.

The route below shows South on Peach to 7th. It will be North on Peach to 7th.
