The Kay County Extension Office is pleased to announce that we will serve as a summer meal distribution site this summer for youth in Kay County. This is the first time the Kay County Extension Office has undertaken this important initiative, helping address food insecurity in our community through the Non-Congregate Summer Meal Service Program.

The Newkirk area is one of the underserved areas within Kay County, and we are thankful for the opportunity to help increase access to food resources for local families during the summer months when school meals are unavailable.

The need is significant in Oklahoma:
• Oklahoma is one of the hungriest states in the nation.
• 1 in 6 Oklahoma adults and seniors are food insecure.
• 1 in 4 Oklahoma children experience food insecurity.

Weekly food boxes will include 5 shelf-stable breakfasts and 5 lunches for each child ages 1–18.

We are grateful for the partnerships and support that make this outreach possible as we work together to support children and families in Kay County.

The Kay County 4-H Cupcake Wars was a sweet success! 🧁💚

We had an incredible turnout of Kay County 4-H’ers, with a great mix of first-time participants and seasoned teams bringing their A-game. Judges were truly wowed by the creativity, both in the beautifully designed table settings and the impressive finished cupcake displays!

From our youngest members to our most experienced, the level of talent and imagination on display was outstanding. Each team worked together under pressure, with just 30 minutes on the clock and no help from the cheering crowd or parents. Their teamwork, time management, and creativity really shined!

Judges were also impressed by the confidence our youth showed during their oral presentations. Teams did an excellent job discussing safety and cleanliness, explaining each member’s contribution, and describing their tablescape with poise and knowledge.

What a fun and exciting way to build skills, confidence, and teamwork—way to go, Kay County 4-H! 🍀
