🚒 Fire Prevention Week 2026 🚒🔥
Members of the Newman Fire Department had the opportunity this week to spend time with the Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District during Fire Prevention Week (October 4–10). This year’s NFPA theme, “Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” focuses on practical habits that help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires in our homes and communities.
Students joined classroom presentations on fire safety, explored Engine 55 and its equipment, met Sparky the Fire Dog, and watched (and cheered during) a gear-donning demonstration by our firefighters. The energy, questions, and engagement from the kids was outstanding.
Thank you to the staff and students at Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District for the warm welcome, and to the volunteer firefighters who made these visits possible. Fire prevention education remains one of the most effective ways we protect our community.
A few quick reminders from this year’s theme:
✔️Use the charger and cord that came with the device (or one approved by the manufacturer).
✔️Charge on a hard, flat surface—not on beds, couches, or under pillows.
✔️Unplug devices once they are fully charged.
✔️Stop using a device that is swelling, extremely hot, leaking, smoking, or making unusual sounds.
Let’s all charge into fire safety. Stay safe, Newman!
