In honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence the City of Newnan held a writing contest. People were asked to submit an original short story or poem. We received many wonderful stories, poems, and essays. Our judges were Elizabeth Ruppel with the Carnegie Library and Anthony Urda with the City of Newnan Communications department. Emmalee Ewing won our children’s category with her poem The Nation of All Nations. Amy Dees won our adult category with the short story, The Power of the Press. Thank you to everyone who submitted entries. We were pleased to welcome Miss. Ewing and Ms. Dees to read their winning entries at the August 25th City Council meeting.

The Newnan Kiwanis Club grant funds all of our summer teen and children’s programs. We could not do what we do without their support!

The Newnan Kiwanis Club has put on the Coweta Fair since 1947. That is going on eighty years of the same eleven days every fall!

It is worth knowing where the $10 at the gate actually goes, because it is not simply an admission price. It is how a club of 100+ funds local non-profits focused on the health, education, and well-being of children in our community.

It helps more than 50 organizations, all of them here in Coweta County. Ferst Readers, Scouting America, Elevate Coweta Students, and so many more. Plus, a Christmas shopping spree for kids who would not otherwise get one.

So ride the Ferris wheel. Eat the pimento cheese. It all ends up back in the same county where we live...Coweta!

Plan Ahead! Mega Passes are $30 and cover admission plus unlimited rides for one person for one day on whichever day you pick. Advance sale only, through Wednesday, September 23.

We had a great time painting with ArtzyMe this summer! Carnegie kids enjoyed painting a beautiful firefly painting.

Generative Poetry Workshop: Sept 8, 2-4pm
Write your heart out in this generative intensive workshop focusing on play, persona, and found forms. Through a series of unexpected prompts, sensory exercises, and close readings of contemporary poems, this class will leave you with drafts and starts for new poems and writing projects.
