B/2-121 Infantry, Georgia Army National Guard

B/2-121 Infantry, Georgia Army National Guard B/2-121 IN is a Light Infantry Company based in Newnan, Georgia. Company Commander is CPT Aaron Holt. Company First Sergeant is 1SG Tim Sperry.

Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, The Old Grey Bonnets, has been based at the Jackson-Pless Armory in Newnan, Georgia since 2007 and is part of the 48th Infantry Brigade, Georgia Army National Guard. Company Executive Officer is 1LT Joe Sewall. Most recently, B/2-121 IN deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom during 2009 and 2010. B/2-121 IN was attached to 1st BN 1

21st IN and operated, mainly, near the Pakistan and Afghanistan border. The Company's primary mission was to train the Afghan Security Forces under Task Force Phoniex. Additionally, B/2-121 IN was part of the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team's deployment to Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, from May 2005 through May 2006. After return from Iraq, B/2-121 IN was moved to Newnan, Georgia from Cordele, Georgia. Today, B/2-121 IN is comprised of many soldiers who served with B/2-121 IN and Echo Troop 1-108th Cavalry. E/108th CAV was the separate Cavalry Troop for the 48th Infantry Brigade and was decommissioned after the Iraq deployment. The present combined unit is a seasoned and battle tested unit. A Gold metal and enamel device 1 1/16 inches (2.70 cm) in width overall consisting of an "Old Gray Bonnet" Proper. The insignia to be manufactured and worn in pairs. Symbolism
The 121st Infantry adopted "The Old Gray Bonnet" as the official air and is known as the "Old Gray Bonnet" Regiment. Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 121st Regiment Infantry, Georgia National Guard on 27 June 1928. It was amended to permit manufacturing in pairs on 16 August 1928. It was redesignated for the 162d Tank Battalion, Georgia National Guard on 24 May 1956. The insignia was redesignated for the 121st Infantry, Georgia National Guard on 17 April 1961. Coat Of Arms

The shield is blue for Infantry. The gray saltire represents service in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. The cactus symbolizes Mexican border duty and the fleur-de-lis service in France during World War I. Crest

The coat of arms was originally approved for the 121st Regiment Infantry, Georgia National Guard on 26 June 1928. The coat of arms was redesignated for the 121st Infantry, Georgia National Guard on 17 April 1961.

For anybody that is having trouble getting off work for the welcome home ceremony and 48 hour pass because of last second changes or the need for more advance notice, please try to talk to your HR department about the FMLA NDAA (Family and Medical Leave Act National Defense Authorization Act). This allows for the spouse, son, daughter, or parent of a member of the military that is deployed to a foreign country the ability to have time off of work for circumstances the arise as a result of the deployment (such as coming home, needing to pick your Soldier up to give them a ride due to the no driving restriction, etc.). Most HR departments and employers prefer ample notice but due to the nature of everything going on and the last second changes, that is a hard reality for most of us.
If your employer or whomever requires something official explaining the last second changes or anything, please let us know and we will write one for you.
