The NWS Yorktown Youth Center was awarded a competitive grant that supports the center’s efforts in celebrating the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Thanks to the Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) and AmeriCorps, school-agers and volunteers will pack 60 “Blue Light” and 60 “Red Line” canvas lunch bags with nutritious snacks and beverages. This service project intent is to support our first responders within the police and fire services communities. It also supports the efforts of BGCA and AmeriCorps in observing 9/11 with a day of service and unity. Children and volunteers are busy designing thank you cards and packing bags in preparation for our September 4 distribution and meet and greet of first responders on our installation as well as the community.
