Video Visitation Hours:
Free video visitation kiosks are set up at the Adult Detention Center (Annex), located at 228 25th Street. Video visitation is available daily from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and must be prearranged through Securus by the outside visitor. Go to: https://securustech.online/ #/schedule-onsite-visit

You can also schedule at-home video visits for a fee.

📚✏️ It’s the First Day of School! ✏️📚

The Newport News Sheriff’s Office wishes all students, teachers, school staff, and families a safe, successful, and exciting school year!

As students head back to the classroom, we’re reminding everyone to use a little extra patience and caution on the roads. School zones, bus stops, and neighborhood streets will once again be busy with children making their way to and from school.

A few important reminders:

✅ Slow down and stay alert in school zones and neighborhoods.
✅ Stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing and students are loading or unloading.
✅ Watch carefully for children at crosswalks, bus stops, and between parked vehicles.
✅ Give yourself a few extra minutes for your morning and afternoon commute.

Here’s to a great year of learning, new opportunities, and new adventures. Let’s all do our part to help make it a safe one! 🍎🚌

The Newport News Sheriff’s Office had a great time joining "Wawa with the Law" in support of Special Olympics Virginia!

Our deputies enjoyed connecting with the community, sharing a few laughs, and helping raise funds for an organization that makes such a positive impact for athletes and families across the Commonwealth.

A big thank you to Wawa , the Newport News Police Department and everyone who stopped by, and all who donated to support Special Olympics Virginia. We’re always proud to be part of events that bring our community together for a great cause! 💙🏅

You may notice a little more color rolling through Newport News! 🧩 The Newport News Sheriff’s Office is proud to introduce our newly wrapped vehicle celebrating a very special part of our community and highlighting causes that are important to us: Autism Awareness, Project Lifesaver, Alzheimer's and Dementia Awareness and the Special Olympics.

From the colorful puzzle-piece design to the “Accept • Love • Understand” message, this vehicle is about more than looking good, it’s about helping our community feel seen, supported and included. 💙

We’re also proud to support and recognize Project Lifesaver International Headquarters, Autism Society Tidewater Virginia, Alzheimer's Awareness and Special Olympics Virginia for the incredible work these organizations do for individuals and families in our community.

Congratulations to Lt. L. Andrews, RN J. Rodgers-Green, and Lt. M. Hardy on graduating from the Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Training Academy's 20th Annual Leadership Institute!
The Leadership Institute brings together new and emerging leaders, first-line supervisors, and mid-level managers from law enforcement agencies across Hampton Roads to strengthen their leadership skills and prepare them for the challenges of public service.

On Wednesday, Newport News Sheriff Gabe Morgan moderated a distinguished panel featuring Chief Stephen Jenkins (Portsmouth PD), Chief Sean Dunn (Williamsburg PD), Chief James Buie (Suffolk PD), and Chief Alonzo Howell (Smithfield PD). Drawing on decades of combined law enforcement experience, the panelists shared valuable insights on situational leadership, motivating employees, decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict resolution while candidly answering questions from participants.

The program concluded Thursday at Christopher Newport University with a luncheon and graduation ceremony celebrating the accomplishments of this year's class.

This year, we gather as a community to commemorate a profound milestone—the 25-year anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. This significant occasion serves as a reminder to reflect, unite, and express our unwavering commitment to honor the lives lost and the sacrifices made on that fateful day.

We warmly invite you to join us, along with our partners at the Newport News Police Department and the Newport News Fire Department, on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Gaines Theatre located at Christopher Newport University, for our Annual Honor and Remembrance ceremony. The event is free and open to public. We also ask that you please Save the Date and help us spread the word by sharing this post.
