We want to personally thank Veneer Technologies for once again supporting our D.A.R.E. program and the students we serve.

Veneer Tech holds a special place in the history of this program at the Newport Police Department. They were our inaugural community partner when we brought D.A.R.E. into our schools several years ago, helping provide the support we needed to get the program off the ground from the very beginning. Their support has been unwavering ever since.

Partnerships like this are a great example of what can happen when local businesses invest in their community. We are incredibly grateful to Veneer Tech for continuing to invest in our officers, our schools, and most importantly, Newport’s students.

Thank you for being there from day one and for continuing to stand behind this program!

🎉 Congratulations to Officer Morgan Burton! 🎉
Please join us in congratulating School Resource Officer Morgan Burton on successfully graduating from the D.A.R.E. Officer Certification Program!
Officer Burton is now officially certified to teach the D.A.R.E. curriculum, equipping our students with the knowledge and skills to make safe, healthy, and responsible choices. His dedication to building positive relationships with our youth and investing in the next generation reflects the values of the Newport Police Department.
With Officer Burton's graduation today, both of our School Resource Officers are now D.A.R.E. certified, further strengthening our commitment to serving the students and families of Newport through education, mentorship, and community relationships. We appreciate our continued partnership with the Carteret County Public School System, Newport Middle School, and Newport Elementary School

Everyone talks about “6-7” these days…

But only one member of the Newport Police Department has actually been doing it since birth.

Today we’re wishing a very Happy Birthday to Detective Brian Willis. Former School Resource Officer, current Detective, occasional traffic director, professional dad-joke enthusiast, and Newport’s original 6/7!

Thanks for everything you do for this department. We hope you have a great birthday, Brian!

Today we officially welcomed Officers Isaac McPherson and A.J. Standley to the Newport Police Department. We are proud of the hard work and dedication that brought them to this milestone and look forward to watching them grow in service to our community.

Chief Lewis commented: “One of the most rewarding parts as Chief is watching new officers take the oath and begin their careers in law enforcement. For Isaac and A.J., that day was today and I look forward to watching them learn, grow, and serve this community with honor.”

7:00 p.m. Update:
Newport Fire Department and Emergency Management have now opened both lanes of travel in the area. Normal traffic patterns may resume. We continue to urge caution as emergency crews continue to operate in the area.

6:00 p.m. Update:
One lane of traffic is now being restored for travel on Orange St. and Mill Creek Rd. Expect significant delays as traffic moves through this area. Please use extreme caution as emergency crews are still actively working on scene.

5:30 p.m. Update:
Orange St. and Mill Creek Rd. remain closed at this time. Plans are being made to open one lane of travel as soon as possible. We will provide updates as available.

Orange St. and Mill Creek Rd. is temporarily closed in the area of the Dept. of Corrections due to a structure fire in the area. All motorists should choose an alternate route for the time being.

🐣 Headed to the Easter Egg Hunt today? 🚗

We’re expecting a big crowd at Newport Community Park from 11 AM – 1 PM, so just a quick reminder:

• Slow down and watch for kids—there will be a lot of excited little ones running around
• Be extra careful in parking areas and near the roadways
• Follow parking directions and avoid blocking entrances/exits
• Give yourself a little extra time getting in and out

Let’s keep it safe so everyone can enjoy the day. See you out there!
