International Overdose Awareness Day, August 31

Today, Northern State Correctional Facility joins communities around the world in recognizing International Overdose Awareness Day.

We remember those who have lost their lives to overdose, support the families and loved ones left behind, and recognize the individuals working toward recovery and a healthier future.

In corrections, we see firsthand how substance use can affect individuals, families, and communities. Prevention, education, compassion, and access to support can save lives.

Today is a reminder that behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a story. Together, we can help reduce stigma, encourage people to seek help, and work toward safer, healthier communities.

The cadets are wrapping up Week 4 of the academy! They continue to put in the hard work, build their skills, and prepare for the responsibilities ahead.

Next week, the cadets will begin training in non-lethal use-of-force techniques, focusing on proper procedures, control techniques, and making sound decisions in challenging situations.

Please join us in congratulating COII Martell, one of our August Employees of the Month! 🎉

Since returning to the facility, COII Martell has demonstrated a positive attitude, professionalism, and a renewed commitment to his work. He is always willing to assist his coworkers and contribute wherever needed, making him a valuable member of the NSCF team.

Recently promoted to the COII position, Martell has embraced his new leadership responsibilities and continues to work hard to set a positive example for the staff he supervises. He takes initiative, leads by example, and is committed to becoming an effective leader.

Please join us in congratulating COI Miller, one of our August Employees of the Month! 🎉

Although still fairly new to the role, COI Miller has quickly demonstrated what it means to be a dedicated and professional correctional officer. He does an excellent job clearly communicating expectations to the unit, holding individuals accountable, and maintaining professionalism while building positive rapport with the population.

He is also diligent about keeping paperwork in the drawer organized and up to date, which is especially helpful to his relief officer and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the unit.
