Yesterday's storms resulted in more than a dozen outages throughout the service area. Some areas were more difficult to reach than others; crews had to walk a transformer into a ravine off of the Havelock bypass and manually hoist the transformer to the top of the pole. Other areas were flooded and required a bit of linemen ingenuity. Thankfully crews were able to safely restore power to all members by daybreak.

September is National Preparedness Month, a reminder that preparation starts long before a storm appears in the forecast.

For North Carolina's electric cooperatives, storm readiness is a year-round effort.

When Hurricane Florence devastated eastern North Carolina in 2018, Michael Barts witnessed firsthand the challenges of restoring power after one of the most destructive storms to hit the region. Today, those lessons help guide the work he and crews at Carteret-Craven Electric Co-op do every day to prepare for whatever comes next.

Read more about Barts' story and how co-ops stay ready, no matter the storm ⬇️
