No Kings protesters on Aquidneck Island (Middletown, RI) braved rainy weather during the first nationwide “No Kings” day of action on June 14, 2025. On that day, an estimated 5 million people across the country joined peaceful demonstrations under the “No Kings” banner. Now, four months later, communities nationwide are mobilizing again on October 18 to stand up against authoritarianism and defend democracy.

This Saturday, October 18 at 1 PM, join us at the Rhode Island State House in Providence for the next No Kings rally – part of a nationwide day of peaceful action to defend our democracy. We’ll be peacefully standing up for democracy and sending the message that America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people. No Kings is a nationwide movement committed to nonviolent action, so families are welcome and safety is a priority. Every voice counts in this fight for our democracy, so we need you there!

Aquidneck Island residents (Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth): we’ve got you covered. The Newport Democratic City Committee has organized a round-trip bus from Aquidneck Island to Providence for the rally. This way, everyone who wants to attend can join us without worrying about transportation. One bus is already full, and remaining seats are limited – so reserve your spot now through the ActBlue link in our bio to secure a seat. Don’t wait – let’s pack the bus and show up strong together. See you on Saturday!

🚨 Aquidneck Island’s only birthing center is at risk.

Nearly 500 babies were born at the Noreen Stonor Drexel Birthing Center last year—and yet Brown University Health is considering cuts or closure.

📣 Newport City Council just passed a unanimous resolution calling on Brown Health to keep the center open. But we need your voice too.

Who was John Lewis?

• Student leader who risked his life at lunch-counter sit-ins and Freedom Rides.
• Chair of SNCC, youngest speaker at the 1963 March on Washington.
• Beaten on “Bloody Sunday” crossing Selma’s Edmund Pettus Bridge—but never stopped marching.
• 17-term U.S. Representative for Georgia, champion of voting rights, conscience of Congress.
• Coined the rallying cry: “Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble.”
