Newport Fire Department

Newport Fire Department The Citizens Fire Company #1 of Newport, PA We are a 100% volunteer organization with an active crew of 20 to 25 firefighters.
(1)

Founded in 1925, Citizen’s Fire Company is one of 12 companies in Perry County, Pennsylvania covering a first due area of roughly seventy square miles. Within our community we serve a population of around 7500 residents. Our community is mainly residential and farm land, with some light commercial facilities scattered throughout. There are currently two schools facilities (an elementary school and

a combination junior/senior high school), several churches and day care facilities. We also have a few strip mall style shopping areas with more planned in the near future. A large majority of our local remains very rural with little or no adequate water supply readily available. Stretching through the middle of our area is a section of State Route 22/322, the major east west limited access highway between State College (home to Pennsylvania State University, Main Campus) and the City of Harrisburg (Our State Capital). We also protect approximately 15 miles of the Norfolk Southern Railroad’s east coast line. Also flowing through our area is a section of the Juniata River.

Reminder to all people with license, when you are out driving on any road, you must slow down and move over for emergency vehicles. Recently on past couple incidents we’ve handled. There are an enormous amount of vehicles flying past us while we are along the highway or local road. Our members of the department are 100% volunteers. Each one of our members have families and lives. We want our members to return home uninjured. There are many fatals in the country of first responders struck by another vehicle. We don’t want to see that happen to anyone. Please slow down and move over when you see the emergency lights. It’s a law in Pennsylvania!

The Newport Fire Company is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a generous $2,500 grant from the Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving program! 🎉 This funding will go towards purchasing additional firefighter gear, which is essential for our brave firefighters to perform their duties safely and effectively. Ensuring that our new members have the necessary protective gear is critical, as it not only protects them from harm but also gives them the confidence to respond to emergencies with courage and conviction. Unfortunately, the cost of this gear has been rising continuously, making it a significant burden on our resources. That's why we're incredibly grateful to the Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving program for stepping in to help us bridge this gap. Their support will enable us to provide our firefighters with the best possible equipment, allowing them to focus on what they do best - saving lives and keeping our community safe. Thank you, Pennsylvania Skill , for your kindness and commitment to our community! 🙏

With impending weather expected this weekend, we are asking community to assist in helping the fire department out. If you have a hydrant near your house, it will be much appreciated and save time for us to use them for an emergency. Stay safe and warm throughout this weekend.

Tanker with 2 was originally dispatched to the scene of a multi alarm commercial fire. While responding, tanker was redirected to transfer to Mifflintown Hose Co #1 with Tanker 5-1 from Decatur Fire, and Rescue 14 from City Hook & Ladder #14 - Lewistown, PA. Around 10:30 p.m. we were cleared from transfer and headed back home until we were requested back at the scene. Tanker was out until 2:00 am until returned back to Perry.
