You don’t have to give up the flavors you love to make healthier choices! Adapting traditional soul food recipes can be as simple as baking instead of frying, using smoked turkey instead of pork, cutting back on sodium, or adding more fresh vegetables and whole ingredients.
Healthy eating is all about balance—honoring family traditions while caring for your body and wellness. Soul food can still feed the soul and support a healthier lifestyle at the same time. This Soul Food Month, try incorporating a few healthier options when preparing those comforting soul food meals.

June is National Soul Food Month!
Soul food is more than comfort — it’s culture, tradition, and nourishment. This month, we’re celebrating the healthy side of soul food with flavorful dishes made from fresh vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and recipes passed down through generations.
From collard greens and black-eyed peas to baked chicken, sweet potatoes, and okra, healthy soul food proves you can honor tradition while fueling your body.
Check out this different spin on meatloaf. Ground beef is replaced with ground chicken. Calories are reduced but not the flavor.
