Last weekend team members went out to Quarry Cove at Yaquina Head for our monthly training. Practicing with high directionals from a vehicle for cliff rescues. This is a common operation we use on real rescue calls.

Multi-Agency Response Rescues Wayward Teen

On March 14th, 2026 the Lincoln City Police Department UAS Team responded to provide drone assistance in locating 1-3 persons believed to have fallen over the north face of God's Thumb.

Through collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard Northwest, North Lincoln Fire Rescue, and the Lincoln County Technical Rescue Team (consisting of members from the Newport, North Lincoln, Toledo, Nestucca, Siletz, and Yachats Fire Departments), one teen was extracted via helicopter from approximately half-way down the cliff-face. Two other teens were located peering over the edge, not on any established trail, and were directed back to a safe area.

We urge hikers to use caution by staying on established trails, maintaining safe distance from edges, and to never trust trees, bushes, or loose rocks for support.

We have had several requests for information regarding calls we have responded on and about patients we have rescued. The Lincoln County Technical Rescue Team (LCTRT) is an operational group or firefighters and rescuers who work on incidents, under the incident command system. Every incident we are on is at the request of an emergency service agency. These agencies being either Fire, Law enforcement or other agencies are the ones responsible for the incident. We are not able to release any official information on calls and those requests need to me made to the agency responsible for the incident. We will not release any patient information. We ask that if you have any questions regarding a call we were on, to contact the local fire agency whose area or district the incident occurred in.

Today has been a long a busy day for the team. Starting off this morning assisting Oregon State Police with a recovery at Devils Churn, the team was called out from that call to a second at Wakonda Airport for an aircraft that crashed into a tree. Team members ascended the tree and were able to rescue the pilot returning him safely to the ground. This was a rather unusual and complex call but with multiple fire agencies, ambulance, life flight, PUD and law enforcement everyone work together for a successful outcome.
This year is the 15th year since the team was formed. The aircraft call was also a milestone for the team, with it being out 100th rescue! We have come a long way since 2011. Because of the hard work and dedication of our current and former team members we have been able to accomplish so much. I look forward to see what the team will do in the next 15 years. Thank you to all team members, past and present!!
