COCKE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ACTIVATES EMERGENCY OPERATIONS PLAN.

Due to low temperatures and increased snowfall across Cocke County, Cocke County S.O. is activating Emergency Weather Plan. Deputies will only respond to emergencies and crashes with injuries at this time. Deputies will handle calls via phone if applicable as well.

If you’re involved in a non-injury crash or slide off the roadway, you’re encouraged to swap information with any involved parties (if applicable) and contact your insurance carrier and inform them of your snow-related damage. Deputies will respond to any vehicle crashes that involve injuries or roadway blockages.

REMINDER FOR NEW YEARS EVE

As we approach New Years Eve, we would like to take a minute and put out some very important reminders.

First, DO NOT drink and drive. The Tennessee Highway Safety Office reminds us to “Designate before you celebrate this holiday season.”

BUZZED driving is DRUNK driving. Our deputies assigned to the THSO DUI Enforcement Grant will be out making sure everyone is being safe and starting the new year off correctly. With that being said, please remember to MOVE OVER for emergency personnel.

Thank everyone for a great 2023 and we cannot wait to continue serving you in 2024.

Happy Holidays!

WANTED SUBJECT APPREHENDED

We are happy to announce that Bryan Thompson has been taken into custody this morning by Newport Police Department.

Mr. Thompson currently has a warrant for his arrest and was wanted for questioning regarding numerous thefts that have occurred in our county.

“We are most excited to announce the arrest of Bryan Thompson. Cocke County Sheriff’s Office and Newport Police responded to two new burglaries of businesses on Highway 25E. While on scene of the incident, the sheriff’s office was obtaining information regarding the investigation and the police department went into a wooded area off of Jasmine Drive, where officers had searched before to see if he possibly was in the woods. When entering, Thompson came out of a tent and he was taken into custody by the Newport Police Department. Law enforcement working together always brings in unbelievable results. We are glad to see Thompson in custody as he has absolutely reaped havoc upon our local community.” -Sheriff C.J. Ball

He was committed to serving the citizens of Sevier County. Sgt. Whaley you will be missed. The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the friendship many of us had with you.

As we have said prior, we are committed to assisting Sheriff Michael Hodges Jr. and his staff as they navigate through this tragic loss.
